If you came here to learn how to set up a gyroplane/gyrocopter, forget it - this video is worthless. If you want to see a bunch of guys goofin'' around with a carpenter's laser level - which is a nice way to build houses - then enjoy, this is the video for you.

I like the old style gyroplanes. Now that's flying. We should call them Grass Roots Gyroplanes or GRG

The open frame gyros give the best feeling like you’re flying by the seat of your pants in my opinion.

auto gyro jump takeoff doesn’t require power so much as torque, and even that torque is applied for only a few seconds. What makes the maneuver a challenge is converting from vertical to horizontal flight before the rotor loses all its energy. To do a jump takeoff an auto gyro must first spin-up the rotor using a pre-rotator, which is either a small auxiliary engine, electric motor, or a power take off (PTO) from the primary thrust engine. It doesn’t take a lot of power to pre-rotate because the rotor is in flat pitch (minimum drag) and the spin-up can take as long as you like. You are pumping the rotor full of potential energy to be ready for the jump. Once the rotor has reached its target RPM, it has to be disengaged from the pre-rotator. This is a safety issue because an auto gyro doesn’t have a tail rotor like a helicopter. If you try a jump takeoff with the pre-rotator still engaged then the body of the auto gyro is going to try to rotate AWAY from the turning rotor and possibly wind up in a ball of wreckage. Not good. You see a jump takeoff is asking the auto gyro to pretend it is a helicopter, which it doesn’t do well without a tail rotor to counteract that torque. What this means is you have to build up all your takeoff power in the rotor before engagement so it had better be enough. And with proper operation it will be. Now you are on the runway, facing into the wind. The rotor has been spun-up by the pre-rotator to the proper speed and the pre-rotator disengaged. You are ready for the jump takeoff. Now you do two things at the same time: 1) you pull up on the cyclic control bar which pitches-up the rotor blades taking them in a millisecond from making no lift to making more lift than the weight of the gyro, and; 2) you push the engine throttle all the way forward creating maximum thrust from the propeller, pushing (or pulling) the gyro through the air. Here is what happens if you are lucky. First the rotor pulls you straight up until all its potential energy is used up at, say, 50 feet. The gyro stays steady because you remembered to disconnect the pre-rotator. While the rotor is snatching you into the sky the engine is coming-in with takeoff power creating thrust that gets the gyro moving forward, making that vital transition from vertical to horizontal flight where rotor lift is created like any wing, by passing through the air. And now you are climbing away under power. There’s a lot to do in a jump takeoff, but you learn fast. And it’s not really that dangerous because the rotor is always producing lift, but if you don’t have the engine it won’t be enough lift to fly.

I don't understand why, in the light of obvious design flaws, people still vehemently defend Bensen's design. The relatively high thrust line in combination with no horizontal stabiliser is a problem.

These are old videos. Nobody defends these designs nowadays. Technology has progressed and designs have improved.

Gary was one of the best pilots I’ve known. His flying was not reckless. He knew the capabilities of his aircraft and flew it within its capabilities. Tragically he passed away in a helicopter accident. He was not flying a gyroplane when he passed.

So you think everyone who dies in an aircraft accident is reckless? Gary had an engine-out in a helicopter within the dead man’s curve with no time to recover. That didn’t make him reckless. Flying aircraft of all types is more dangerous than not flying at all. Well, with the exception of flying a drone.

Our company has been focusing on developing and selling new products for more than 10 years. I'm a senior researcher at Heimkeeper Co., Ltd.Our company has an idea to reduce propeller noise and vibration of helicopters and drones. We're done with the experiment. We have applied for a utility model and a patent As a result of several experiments with small propellers, the current noise and vibration reduction effect is about 30%.The realization process of this idea is not complicated and simple, but the effect is considered to be a great and innovative invention.Looking forward good news from you soon
