Sun Devil stadium playing field took a beating and it you can see it in this and future Fiesta Bowls. Field was in awful shape.

Ole Miss was in the running to play in the Fiesta Bowl. They had finished 9-2. The players and coaches agreed to pass if chosen due to MLK controversy. They went to the Gator Bowl instead.

Watching the 1986 NCAA Championship UofL vs Duke. Funny things to notice? No 3 point lines. The CBS announcers were hyped on Duke. "Duke is one half away from winning their first National Championship..." The Cards never gave up,featuring five future NBA players on the team. My first year at UofL, we were fresh off the 1980 NCAA Championship. There were still champions walking around campus. My freshman year we lost to Georgetown in the Final Four. My sophomore year, we beat UK before losing to Arkansas on a miracle shot. My junior year we lost to UK in the semifinals. My Senior year was NIT, then the following year we won the NCAA Championship vs Duke. Those were good years to be a UofL student and fan. So many memories.

I remember going to work early the day after this game and hanging the front page of the Courier Journal newspaper at the entrance to all the UK fan's cubicles. They were not happy with me. 😅😆😅😆

By 93 Louisville had blown out Alabama in the Fiesta Bowl, destroyed Texas and were still playing in a condemned AAA baseball stadium. Imagine if UofL existed in a State that wasn't and hadn't always been openly hostile to the University and its athletics department.

I enjoyed the little bit of truncated football that we got in between the commercials. Don't miss that.
