This is really cool, but why does the description say you’ll discuss techniques & materials & stuff?.. It doesn’t seem like there’s any narration in the video. Just footage of the inking process. I’d love to find out about what kind of paper & ink you’re using & to hear about the techniques, but it doesn’t seem like you say anything here.

Thank you for your comment and for watching the video! We use "Wuzhu Ink" (吳竹墨汁)in our videos, which is commonly used in Chinese painting. The brushes we use are specialized Chinese painting brushes, including "changliu" (長流筆)for initial ink application and final coloring, which are versatile and suitable for coloring, and "shanma" (山馬筆)for painting rocks, which are stiffer and ideal for dry brush effects. As for paper, we use semi-raw xuan (半生熟硬卡)paper mounted on thick boards to prevent ink bleeding and allow for natural ink flow while painting. We also use mineral pigments common in Chinese painting, known for their longevity. We apologize for any confusion regarding the video description. We assumed our audience was predominantly Mandarin-speaking and thus focused on demonstrating the painting process rather than narration. We appreciate your feedback and will incorporate more detailed explanations in future videos to better serve our subscribers. Please feel free to leave any further questions or comments, and we'll do our best to respond. Thank you again for your interest!

Hello! Can u share with me what kind of pigments or material are u using at min 21:30 ? They are ink or a sort of gouache!? Thanks a lot of, your work is amazing.

Thank you for your kind words! We use specialized mineral pigments for Chinese ink painting. The green pigment we use is called "shilü" (石綠), and the blue is called "shiqing" (石青). These pigments are made from ground minerals and mixed with glue. Since the minerals themselves do not fade, artworks made with them can last for centuries. Ancient Chinese murals and temples were also painted with mineral pigments, hence their lasting quality. You can purchase these pigments online, and I bought mine from the Chinese shopping website Taobao, under the brand Jiangsixutang (姜思序堂). Apart from powdered form, there are also pigments available in paste form. In this particular artwork, we used the paste form.

Can i ask what kind of material or object is under the paper and what kind of paper are u using for this paint? I admire u. Greetings from Mexico.
@OhArt8 ай бұрын
Thank you for your admiration and greetings from Mexico! We use Chinese ink painting specialized paper for our paintings. Specifically, it's a semi-ripe Xuan paper with special mounting processes common in Chinese painting. Traditionally, artists would complete their works before sending them for mounting. However, nowadays, it's easy to purchase pre-mounted blank paper online. Simply search for '半生熟宣紙軟卡' on Taobao to find various options. Happy New Year!

is there such a thing as QUALITY chinese brush brand?
@OhArt8 ай бұрын
I don't have a specific brand preference for Chinese brushes. In Chinese painting, brushes are mainly categorized by the type of hair they're made of. For painting landscape outlines, I use a stiff wolf hair brush called 山馬筆"shanma bi." For coloring, I use another brush primarily made of goat hair, as it's better for holding color. The brush I use for fine white lines is called 長流筆"chang liu bi." You can search for "長流筆" and "山馬筆" online. Another brush I often use is called 蘭竹筆 "lanzhu bi," which is used for painting flowers and birds. Different brushes offer different strokes and effects.

Bonjour, votre travail est très intéressant. Je l''aime beaucoup. Quel papier avez-vous utilisé?
@OhArt9 ай бұрын

Thank you so much for sharing this episode! I love the loose ink throwing Chinese painting techniques, although i haven’t done much water color painting. ( as i am mostly a mixed media artist using acrylic and oils) But when it comes to this “throw ink” technique, i am immediately inspired. I would love to follow your channel and hope to paint alongside.👍💙🙏
