I appreciate the hard work and details in your video. It seems you are using a 20 gauge wire which is typically included in diy orders. 20 gauge is a thin wire that may not last long. My petsafe order ( way back in 2006) came with 18 gauge wire. Still going strong and most of it is buried. I am replacing it with 16 gauge wire now since I couldn’t find the cut. So, my point is pay little more and get a ticker wire. Also, most spools come with 500 feet long wire. Get a 1000 feet long wire if you need more than that. Avoid splices if you can. One wire loops around the house and twist to the box. Make sure you mark where the wire is buried for the future. Digging holes for plants can turn into a nightmare.

Been using inground fence for over 10 years. I too tested the collars on myself. ( level 5 will contain a horse I'm certain of it) + No way in hell a human could stand it to their throat like a pet. 110 lb pitt and a 130 lb pitt, males, stubborn has a k9 gets, + level 3 + a 30 ft range to the wire totaling 60 ft wide swath of " INSTANT SHUTDOWN " 1 dog thought he was going to be tough and charge it at 20 ft swath, and got through it. so.. ( no increase of power) just widened to 60' and it drops his big ass like a sack of potatoes and he lays down in submission ( the shock induced screaming or lack there of was tough to hear/witness, "but hey, I said stay in the GD yard" ).. after 30s it stops shocking the dog ( built in safety) and he scurried back in the yard. It only took once. >>>now the boundary width is only 6 feet. (they don't want any more) I swear by these systems, only there is a catch,,, you have to know how to use them properly. And petsafe transmitters are cheap junk ( have 4 bad ones hoping they will give me one on the house if I trade in enough dead ones. Higher priced brands of transmitter have the same problems.. ( lightening kills all cool things and surge protectors on the loop for these things are nearly worthless). Only way to make any inground transmitter last the test of time is to unplug them completely during storms otherwise it is a gamble. ( you have a huge antenna around the property! ) + These things are a gift from God if you take the time to learn them and not torture a pet in the process(train them as long as it takes... the recommended 30 days and remove the flags is garbage, every pet is different), COLLAR MUST BE TIGHT ENOUGH TO CONTACT SKIN AND ALSO TIGHT ENOUGH THEY CANNOT TURTLE NECK OUT AND DROP THE PRONGS FROM THEIR SKIN, and keep a close eye on the transmitters, they also weaken over time shortening the boundary width, and no rechargeable collars, 9v batteries only, have a spare. I keep some flags out year round for 1 dog, and mainly to warn criminals ( step past those flags and you might die ).+

It’s more important to teach them to come to you, the porch, a target to the tones. They should rarely get corrections. They should learn tones mean turn around. Glad you got her straightened out.

Thank you so much for the information. We are thinking about getting a dog, and we have an acre of property. When I heard you say, that it took you one afternoon, it sure made the whole thing seem much more doable. Keep up the good work! I wonder, will a wire system, keep a larger dog in the yard, just don't have any experience in that area.

Hello, I have a question for you. I installed a loop of 16 gauge wire about 350 feet across part of my land. I would like to install another loop in another part of the field but since I no longer have enough 16 gauge wire can I use the wire that came with the kit purchased which is 20 gauge. The new loop will have approximately 200 to 250 feet in length and both loops would be linked together and operated on the same transmitter. Thanks in advance for your help and reply,

I have trained two dogs with a perimeter collar, their initial reaction was the same as you described, complete confusion, back to the porch, not wanting to leave the porch for a few days. However, both dogs learned when their collar was off. Worked well as long as the collar was on, especially the one dog, she KNEW when it was off and she totally took advantage.

Is it normal the correction stops after a few seconds when the dog/collar is off boundary ?

Great video. We have an escape artist for a pup. Thinking about getting a fence round our yard. It's a mixture of lawn and concrete Do you put the wire straight into the ground or put it through conjugate for protection of the wire. Will that reduce the signal strength? Thanks

Here i am thinking, they're invisible. How are there different types. Let your imagination run wild I guess..lol They shock the dog! I'm not down for that. If you don't have proper fencing. Don't get a dog.
@lanasmiley5643 Жыл бұрын
No amount of training will reliably keep your dog inside these systems. Eventually they will leave! Also other animals are free to enter the area...
@lanasmiley5643 Жыл бұрын
The reliability of these systems is based on the level of possible stimulation(s) outside the fenceline. Do you want to risk that?? (Don't)

So my dog got a shock during the summer and even though we took the collar off for two and a half months when we put it back on as soon as he heard the noise he will not go back to the backyard again. We only have it set at vibrate and bell at this time and we do not plan on increasing it but we can't get him in the yard. Can anybody give me some advice.
