Hi Terry, any chance you want to renovate an old 1970s mitchell 5th wheel? I'm part way through mine but won't be able to finish and I'd love for it to go to someone who would appreciate it.
@terry31934 ай бұрын
I’d love that opportunity but due to declining health and medical problems, I am no longer able to do that kind of work. I’ve owned every type of Mitchell except a fifth wheel. .

Totally understood. I'm sorry to hear that, I hope the best for you.

Your truck looks amazing, one day my f250 crew cab will look this good, you have a rare truck thank you for sharing this video

Not worth selling youll never be able to replace it with the same condition....if you even find one Always good to have a truck around even if its not used often. Daily wrecked, youre still getting to work .Plus its just plain cool Even todays trucks all look the same to me. Youll never get hurt in a wreck thats for sure Back in the day when they were all steel like this maybe....but not now.

Hi Gustavo, if you can email me at [email protected], I’d be happy to discuss. I am planning to put it on Bring a trailer sometime this month unless it sells first. Thanks for your interest!

Terry I guess you got rid of the 72 F250 and 79 Mitchell and replaced it with this. Sad to hear you're considering selling this truck.

Hello Troy. Thank you for the nice compliment on the Ford. I’ve had interest of buying it from folks and I’ve tinkered with the idea of selling it for the past several years, only because it just sits in the garage and I don’t really have an interest in taking it to car shows anymore as my wife and I enjoy traveling during the summer now so we just aren’t around. I start her up every month and I might drive her around the block or so but that’s about it. I think I’ve put about 2500 miles on her over the past 12 years that I’ve owned it. Funny, I’ve changed the oil every year, mostly because I just like to tinker with it and get my hands greasy so I guess on average, she’s gotten an oil change every 200 miles. The oil is practically clear. Obviously I have t been in any hurry to sell her but I do think I am going to put her up for sale sometime at the beginning of the new year. If you are seriously interested, you can email me at [email protected] and I can provide you with more details, etc. Thanks for the interest and have a happy holiday!

I think on the super camper specials the rear axle is back a foot or so farther than standard trucks
@terry3193 Жыл бұрын
Yes, you are right. It’s 8” back for a longer wheelbase which helped it have a 10K GVWR which competed with GM’s new 1 ton dually model for ‘73. Ford wouldn’t introduce a dually until the new model in 1980. The Super camper special also rode on a narrower rail chassis than any other Ford pickup, which was the same chassis for Ford’s motor homes Which did have dual wheels in the rear. It has an incredible payload. All sorts of strange little quirks with this truck which makes it a low production and rare truck. Thanks for watching!

Im only 45 years old but I remembered that from my dad and other older guys taking about the older vehicles and thanks for posting the video I enjoying watching what they did back then and when these young engineers do it now they think they are all that

Beautiful truck. My dad had 2 of these. A 73 the first year they made this and then again later had a 76. Both were awesome trucks like yours.

Thank you for the compliment. It is a very nice truck. I’ve only seen one other that I thought was comparable, in regard to options, mileage, originality, and condition. Most aren’t loaded with XLT and 460 w/ac. I have been considering selling it for the past few years as it really just sits in the garage. I used to take it to local car shows but don’t have the energy any more due to some health issues. I’ve been told by many to put it on “bring a trailer” auction. I’m not really familiar with that. If you are interested, you can email me at [email protected]. Thanks!

Wow, Aisha I saw this video before buying my GX 470 last month, I'd surely have come for yours cos it's just so clean and with a lower mileage plus I believe it's in a very good condition too by the efforts of your son. Anyway, wish you the best of luck for its sale. Loved the video.

These GXs have quite a following. You may consider listing yours on Bring a Trailer to get the most $$$ out of it that you can. All things considered, it’s still in pretty darn good shape. You **almost** got me until the very end. I was about to ask “Where’s the ‘74!?” 😂 Gosh that’s a beautiful truck! Reminds me so much of my Grandpa’s old Camper Special that he had had since new. Yours would DEFINITELY be BaT-worthy if you indeed decide to sell, but personally I would just keep it! :)

I am interested in how the loading system works
@terry31932 жыл бұрын
It came with a Mitchell loading system but I replaced it with a Dynalift loading system which is almost the same. It has a rolling mechanism that is mounted on the end of the truck bed. It has 2 gears that line up with 2 tracks that are mounted on the bottom of the camper. The camper has 2 wheels on the rear camper bumper. You then turn the crank at the end of the truck bed and the gears pull the camper up onto the truck and it slides in. Reverse process to unload. It is quite slick and 1 person can do it easily. My father owned 2 Mitchells and he had the same loading system during the late 70's. I don't know why it didn't catch on but it's much easier than raising 3500 pounds into the air and then trying to pull the truck underneath, in my opinion.
@drivedb73 жыл бұрын
Absolutely pristine! What a fine example. Do you still have this truck? Would love to see how it looks today.
@terry31933 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I do still own it and it remains in identical condition. I’ve only put about a total of 3K miles on it over the past 10 years. I’m actually considering selling it but we’ll see. Thanks for looking!
@drivedb73 жыл бұрын
@@terry3193 - Remarkable! Unless you need the space or have your eyes on another vehicle, personally I'd be inclined to keep it. You'll probably never find another one that well-preserved and original. But, if you do sell it, BaT would probably be the place for that. F-Series fans would go gaga. You should do one of those POV walkaround/test drives on this truck. Since you've only put 3k miles on it, it sounds like it needs to have the cobwebs blown out anyway! 😂 (I'm sure there's no cobwebs anywhere near this truck)
