I also want to personally thank Trevor Noah who, with his specials on Netflix, during these past Christmas holidays, helped me, through his personal story and his comedy, to react, making me laugh out loud alone, in a moment of particular despair. of my life. Thank you with all my heart

It was a very interesting and touching exchange. she reminded me of many moments of my mother's illness in which we truly laughed out loud also at what she herself said while under morphine and which she occasionally became aware of. and we children continued to laugh with her while she left and after she left. This allowed us to lighten up and vent the enormous pain we were feeling

I think often people get caught up in what the think Self-Care is or should look like. There are things we can do (speaking as a former co-caregiver for my stepmom who had Vascular Dementia and Alz) upgrade things we already do, engaging in things even for 1 minute throughout our day. (listening to music while we prep food, a lovely scented body wash or spray for in the shower or one of those head scrubbies, taking a deep breath while you are in the bathroom, warm washcloth on the face etc)

I'm not a comedian, I'm a registered nurse and midwife. I worked for 38 years as a district nurse. During these years, I accompanied many patients and also their families until the end, until the death of the patient. It was difficult, sad and full of challenges. However, without humor and laughter, I could not endure it. Laughter helped family members, the patient, and myself. Thank you for this conversation! It is really helpful to know that you too have had difficult times caring for your loved ones.

Of all your available videos, I watched this one first because it's what I needed most. Jennifer, good questions for Pamela. Pamela, very helpful comments about list making and how to proceed with getting help. A couple of technical comments: It would have been nice to first introduce yourselves-your names and your roles. Jennifer, too many hand movements for a video like this. And the background cutout around your hair was odd looking.

Soon many people have experienced this. More than we'd hope. I've held the hand of 2 people as they died in alzhiemers. And seen it directly effect people I love. I love❤ what HFC does. And love it when women are at least half the people in the room.

My sister was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimers on her 60th birthday. Her language was the first to be affected; short answers, (yes and no), not engaging in conversations, withdrawing from communication in general. As other areas of functioning decreased, and rapidly, we felt this loss even more so because her language skills were severely limited. The bright spot was sitting in church with her. As one of the panelist stated, she came alive when a hymn was being sung. Her lips moved! Her voice was being heard through the verses of the song! She knew the entire hymn and we heard her sing! So for those who have a loved one with Alzheimer's or dementia, music is a great communication tool that can bring moments of joy in tough times.

There is for sure a need for care options. I care for my grandmother who lives with me and I’m astounded at the lack of resources or being able to find resources. I literally found this organization as a small mention in a unrelated article, this is very much needed

We are so grateful for your book and service in this area. My wife has aphasia, Alzheimer's and we tried a music therapist for several months. Unfortunately, the therapy seem to be geared to recovery of brain injuries/strokes and centered on using music and have the patient recreate verses to familiar songs. This was too much for her so we stopped due to frustration. Since the therapy was not covered by medicare and thus the supplemental insurance, cost was another problem. FYI: We have had success at using prime music to pull up music that my wife likes and when it says "lyrics" on the CD list of songs for an artist, you can click on lyrics and the lyrics will show on the screen as the music plays. This feature is huge because it is like karioki, only easy and cheap to obtain. However, not every song will have lyrics.

You are an inspiration to all caregivers. I left the workplace to care for my mother who was also challenged with Alzheimer's. It was the biggest responsibility I could have ever undertaken. No matter how mentally prepared I thought I was to bring mom home from rehab after she had a stroke during her Alzheimer's journey, I was far from prepared. Until you are in the moment of the daily demands required from you and the sacrifices you so lovingly give, you have no understanding of what it is like. I rejected help from the outside for awhile. Between feeling guilty and untrusting, I was not ready to bring another entity into our home. HFC also saved my life. It allowed a few hours each month to focus on me. Focus on my physical and emotional well being that was so critical in maintaining the strength I needed to care for someone I so loved. I lost my mom in 2018 and there is not a day that goes by that I don't think of her. I am grateful in knowing that I was able to provide her with the best care possible in the security and safety of our home. As difficult the journey was, I would do it for her again in an instant. I am sending positive energy to you. For every dark day, you will one day be rewarded for the love you gave.
