Born 1952, and a steam locomotive spotter all over the UK until the end of steam in 1968. Looks fantastic, although everything is so clean and tidy, not like us kids coming back covered in soot, oil and ash, and tripping over lumps of coal during the 1960's ! Willesden was a great MPD and one day us kids got chased by the shed foreman in 1965, so we hid in an ash pit under an 8F. And came out filthy...then it was over the road and under the fence to visit Old Oak common MPD. Happy days !

Excellent video Stephen. A plack dedicated to Mervyn Allcock needs to put on the building if not there already. I have been there and saw Tornado. Fantastic place and the Harry Needle diesels next to it

Wonderful film, but you really need to put the date in the header, as it suggests that it’s a current event.

Fantastic. Everything cleaner than when I visited a similar Shed in 1965. 👍🏻🏴

My father visited the Willesden exhibition, and I have a great collection of photos taken around the turntable. The new standards and experimental diesels, most of which are in preservation.

The Steam Gala hasn't been held for several years, the only event that appears to be held regularly is the beer fest! Its real shame because its something i used to look forward to!!!!!

Excellent Stephen. You've really captured an atmosphere there. You could believe it was 60/70 years ago in the shed with the steam.

I gather this was from some time ago as the Super D has been out of ticket for some time now along with several other locomotive in the film, would be nice to see them all lined up again in steam at Barrow Hill.

Great to see Salmon in action again! I remember her as an S&L loco and when Phil Smith had her on the NYMR. I spent a long time giving her a repaint at Grosmont in about 1973. Too small for any serious passenger service but an excellent pilot loco at Grosmont Station, a far cry from working loaded iron ore tippers in the quarries. She's gone full circle now back to her original day job!

A slow-moving group in a way in terms of how their popularity growth has been as unconventional as their style. I love them! And more and more people will even when they are all gone!

I wonder apart from state owned railway museums if China will ever produce the circumstances that allows for volunteer driven heritage lines like those in Europe, Japan and the US. These last bastions seems to be in regions where people lack the spare time and resources for maintaining such an endeavor. And those who do have those resources seems to be located in high density cities with no space for such operations. The steam crane maintaining the coaling looks like a very interesting piece of equipment, it appears to be steam powered despite the mid century modern look and somehow it transmits power to those freight bogies it is resting on allowing it to move on its own.

At present, there is a steam locomotive festival held in Diaobingshan City, Liaoning Province every year, but the duration is usually very short.

Thank you for posting this. We saw them in Manchester on this tour. It was class from start to finish. Remarkable that the original gig was cancelled about a year before because of Judith's brain haemorrhage. We kept our tickets in the hope she would recover and return which of course she did. The way they thanked and said goodbye to their fans, as shown in this video, was memorable.

Thanks. I still find Judith's attention to fans at the stage door very touching.
