Don't use on screen captions - they're always awful. Ren posts the lyrics in the comments section of his videos. Interesting reaction ❤

Thanks for the authentic reaction! Kudos to your ex girlfriend for making the introduction to Ren. Have you covered Hi Ren, Tales of Jenny and Screech or Chalk Outlines (Live)? Recommend those if not. Ps kudos to you for surviving Fentanyl

The history of currency traces humanity's evolution in trade and commerce, transitioning from barter systems to sophisticated financial systems. 1. Barter System: In early societies, goods and services were exchanged directly, relying on mutual need and agreement. However, this system was inefficient due to the "double coincidence of wants" problem. 2. Commodity Money: To overcome these inefficiencies, societies adopted items with intrinsic value, such as cattle, salt, or grain, as mediums of exchange. Precious metals like gold and silver eventually became favored due to their portability, durability, and divisibility. 3. Coinage: Around 600 BCE, the Lydians in present-day Turkey minted the first standardized coins, combining intrinsic value with a guaranteed weight and purity, which facilitated trust in trade. 4. Paper Money: Originating in China during the Tang Dynasty (7th century CE), paper money became widespread under the Song Dynasty. It allowed for easier transportation of wealth and laid the groundwork for modern banking. 5. Banking Systems: The rise of banks during the Renaissance introduced promissory notes and bills of exchange, which acted as precursors to modern banknotes. These systems enabled greater financial transactions and credit systems. 6. Fiat Currency: In the 20th century, most nations transitioned to fiat money-currency without intrinsic value but backed by government decree. The abandonment of the gold standard solidified fiat currency as the dominant system. 7. Digital Currency: The late 20th and early 21st centuries saw the rise of electronic banking and digital currencies like Bitcoin, which use blockchain technology to operate independently of centralized institutions. Throughout its history, currency has evolved to meet the needs of expanding economies and technological advancements, shaping global commerce and financial systems. In a world increasingly characterized by unhinged greed and growing economic inequality, both fiat currency and Bitcoin face significant critiques for their roles in perpetuating and even exacerbating systemic issues. Critique of Fiat Currency Fiat currency, as a government-issued medium of exchange with no intrinsic value, is deeply intertwined with the dynamics of centralized power and economic inequality. Its reliance on monetary policies and central banking systems enables governments and financial elites to manipulate economies for their own benefit. 1. Concentration of Wealth: Central banks often implement policies like quantitative easing, which disproportionately benefit the wealthy by inflating asset prices (stocks, real estate) rather than addressing grassroots economic needs. This fuels wealth inequality by enriching those who already own significant assets while leaving the majority with stagnant wages and rising costs of living. 2. Inflation as a Hidden Tax: Inflation, a hallmark of fiat systems, erodes the purchasing power of ordinary citizens, effectively functioning as a regressive tax. While the wealthy can hedge against inflation through investments, the working class bears the brunt, as their limited savings lose value over time. 3. Debt Dependency: Fiat systems rely heavily on debt to sustain economic growth, creating cycles of dependency where nations, corporations, and individuals are trapped in a web of borrowing and repayment. This debt-based economy often benefits predatory lenders and financial institutions while burdening the poor. 4. Moral Hazard: The ability of governments to "print money" incentivizes reckless fiscal behavior, such as bailing out failing banks or subsidizing corporations, while failing to invest meaningfully in education, healthcare, and social safety nets. These policies exacerbate systemic inequality and public disillusionment. Critique of Bitcoin Bitcoin, often hailed as the antidote to the flaws of fiat currency, brings its own set of challenges that are amplified in a world driven by greed and inequality. 1. Wealth Concentration: Despite its decentralized ethos, Bitcoin has become a playground for early adopters, tech-savvy individuals, and large investors who now hold significant portions of its supply. This concentration of wealth mirrors the inequality seen in fiat systems, undermining its promise of democratized finance. 2. Volatility and Speculation: Bitcoin's extreme price volatility attracts speculators and creates a "get-rich-quick" mentality rather than fostering its use as a stable currency. This speculative nature alienates those who seek financial stability, leaving the wealthy to profit from wild market swings. 3. Environmental Cost: Bitcoin’s proof-of-work system requires massive computational power, consuming more energy annually than some countries. This environmental toll starkly contrasts with the urgent need for sustainable practices in the face of climate change. 4. Accessibility Gap: While Bitcoin is theoretically open to all, the technological barriers to entry-including the need for digital literacy, secure storage solutions, and access to reliable internet-exclude the most economically disadvantaged populations who might benefit most from an alternative to fiat systems. 5. Lack of Regulation: Bitcoin’s decentralized and pseudonymous nature has enabled its misuse in money laundering, tax evasion, and illicit trade. This fuels a perception that it serves the interests of the few who can exploit loopholes rather than addressing systemic inequities. The Bigger Picture In a world where greed and inequality dominate, both fiat currency and Bitcoin fail to address the root causes of economic disparity. Fiat systems reinforce the status quo, allowing wealth to concentrate among the elite through policy manipulation and inflationary practices. Bitcoin, while revolutionary in concept, risks becoming another tool for wealth hoarding, environmental degradation, and speculative greed. A more equitable future may require rethinking the very foundations of economic systems-exploring alternatives such as resource-based economies, universal basic income, and circular financial models. Without addressing the systemic greed and structural inequalities at the heart of both fiat and Bitcoin systems, neither can fully serve humanity’s collective needs.

Ren always pins lyrics in the comments to his videos. Captions are AI-generated and full of mistakes. Don't know whether you can actually see them at the same time as watching videos, but it sure helps with some of them ! These tracks with their vids are almost impossible to take in with one view. Ren has a passion for videographic direction - there's BTS on his Patreon showing just how hands-on he is. The general gist is the struggle with his chronic illness, but this also signifies the end of Sick Boi and the beginning of a new chapter musically in the forthcoming album Slaughterhouse.
