Those smaller birds with perching feet seem to do better than the ducks with their webbed feet! I've seen ducks and geese on ice sliding a bit more probably due to the surface of their feet being larger. On Thursday, all of the ice was gone again, and there was more water in Fleetwood Pond and along the path with all the rain we got.

I had never known they do this until I researched it after watching the fox. It was digging for over five minutes before it found something! It was nice to be sitting in my car while it was busy with its morning. Not sure if you're ever driven down Oyster Rocks Road, but this is at the end of that road. Except for really cold days, there is usually something going on in the early morning hours. It's near Hudson Fields along Route 1.

@Wondering_About_NatureАй бұрын
I should have captioned the video to mention the Great Egret poking around near the Great Blue Heron. The head/neck does resemble a swan! I wonder if the bird dunks the eel to make it wetter and easier to swallow? Just as we wish with our kitties, I wish I could ask the heron questions that I have so I could understand their actions! In my yard the blue jays gang up on the red tail hawks and often trap them in a tree. Others bother the hawks in flight and go for the back feathers. Interesting how they behave in different ways.
@Wondering_About_NatureАй бұрын
That's interesting! Since we both enjoy feeding the birds in our yards, I have to admit that I don't mind blue jays or other birds chasing the hawks! I know they have to eat, but it's always sad to see feathers left behind in the yard after they've eaten a bird.

Beautiful, the woodpeckers do the same in my yard. Haven’t seen any creepers, thank you for sharing.
@Wondering_About_NatureАй бұрын
Since the creepers rarely make a sound, it's hard to spot them unless you happen to catch movement as they make their way up the tree. I love how they stop to investigate under the bark. I've seen a lot of woodpeckers lately during my walks. Of course, as the leaves keep falling, they are easier to spot.

I haven't seen a ruby-crowned Kinglet yet, although my other bird watcher friends have. I live in a hardwood forest area; not many conifers here. Most RCLs, I suspect, pass-through on their way to Northern Minnesota and beyond. Thank-you for sharing. Beautiful pics and sound of their chattering.
@Wondering_About_Nature2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I love migration when we have birds coming through for just a short period. Being along the Atlantic Coast, we sometimes get birds that have flown off course due to storms. The kinglets are so busy when feeding, but this one landed right in front of me, so I was glad I had my camera ready and didn't have to move. They are usually quick to fly away when they sense a threat (although obviously, I wouldn't really be a threat!) As for their call, I finally am able to recognize it when I hear it. Some year-round birds are much easier to recognize for me, but until these come to the area, I almost forget what they sound like! Have a great day.
