Brilliant!!! Just right for parodying. Grundy was a scumbag and it's great that the original ended that drunk's career!

Disgusting. Thank goodness the ‘sex’ pistols disappeared into the obscurity they so well deserved. Awful noise. Now, that Katie Melua, she’s lovely and can really sing. I have crayons you know.

to be honest, looking at it all these years later, Bill Grundy didn't do such a bad job considering time, place and preparation he had and the Amish version really just amplified what a load of tits the others were! His comment of "meeting after" was probably him taking the piss back out of Siouxie but they were too dense to notice!

@philipditchfield439 It was a dog's dinner of an interview - with a lot of participants - but Grundy was on a mission to patronise and expose these 'weirdos' and this is why it is such a pleasure to see him go flat on his face. In the ordinary way, his manner was just quite light and entertaining so it was a loss, so far as I recall, that his position became untenable. He incited them into swearing and then planned to front them down, take ownership and humiliate them over it. This device was a badly judged power play so they wiped the floor with him by simply not backing down over the swearing. Grundy then gave them the pretext to double down on the swearing, and he offered it up gift wrapped. When Grundy responded to Siouxsie, he spoke to her in a loaded or demeaning way for an older man to speak to a younger woman. It is not the point that he may have had a reasonable excuse for saying something which came out or appeared wrong. That remark was fatal to the remainder of the interview. The secondary issue with Siouxsie is that the interaction opened up that whole territory of women being entitled to dress creatively without it being perceived provocative. Grundy was the professional, he was supposed to do his research and he was supposed to have command of the interview. He did not. Aside from his spectacular failure of judgement, his apparently smug and condescending attitude towards these young people completes one of the most satisfying pieces of 'attitude adjustment' of the 20th Century. Grundy was supposed to be interviewing Queen, incidentally, but Freddie Mercury had toothache.

Because in spite of Kevin Eldon having character parts in pretty much every award winning stand up / sitcom / sketch show since he's been around - just check his Wikipedia page - Brass Eye, Alan Partridge etc etc, his own show was a flop with far more misses in the sketches than hits. His comedy didn't transfer well to television and it quickly disappeared without a trace and he went back to playing a quirky character in everyone else's show that (once you recognise Kevin Eldon) you'll start to see him everywhere.
