the problem with the Ring of the Ram is Static Item DCs. The item quickly becomes worthless because it doesn't scale with you. All Static Item DCs should have been equal to Class DC!
@holistichomebrew Жыл бұрын
Yeah i agree! When my players really like an item i tend to upgrade that item but i make them craft it or pay someone to do it.

as a heads up, shields don't actually get potency runes, only weapons and armor.

Oh damn. Thank you for telling me. I didn't mean to put false information out there.
@YmirLonginus Жыл бұрын
@@holistichomebrew not so much false information as it is just general unfamiliarity. it is kinda unintuitive that they don't get potency runes. I actually homebrew potency runes for shields that just give them 2 more hardness each.
@holistichomebrew Жыл бұрын
Oh that's awesome! I'd love to hear some of your other homebrews
@YmirLonginus Жыл бұрын
@@holistichomebrew the system is pretty solid tbh, not much homebrew required. the only other thing I do is let any character choose a boost in str or dex for their class. the key ability stays what is listed, but it helps classes like alchemist and investigator and thaumaturge close the gap between their hit chance and the other martial classes.
@holistichomebrew Жыл бұрын
I like that! Anything to help certain classes is awesome

First thing at least 2 party members are recommended to have in any given party is Healer's tools.
@holistichomebrew Жыл бұрын
Any other items you recommend?
@okagisama Жыл бұрын
It would depend on the setting. Torches, rations, climbing gear... If someone is planning to use a shield, having someone good enough in crafting and having a repair kit is a must have too. Another thing to consider for martials is to get one or two talismans, they can provide the edge to be on top in a rough spot.
@Akeche Жыл бұрын
One thing to keep in mind, the level connected to the item has nothing to do with when the players can technically get it. It's purely to help with the rules for giving out loot, and figuring out what settlement/city could sell it. They could pool all their gold together to afford something super expensive, if they wanted.
@holistichomebrew Жыл бұрын
Thanks Akeche! I didn't know that. I appreciate the information!

@@holistichomebrew I use the difference between the "suggested level" of a magic item and the level of the player as a modifier for attunement. I make players roll for attunement success DC 10. If the PC is level 5 but the item is a 7th level item, then that's a -2 to attunement or DC 12. If they fail their attunement roll they can try again after their next long rest. If the PC is higher level than the item then attunement is automatic. Just some homebrew flavor. Just an idea of how you can use those numbers.
@holistichomebrew Жыл бұрын
@Liam Cage I like that ideas! It allows the players a chance to use higher level items. Ill try it out with my players.

@@holistichomebrew well I've been watching anything that isnt the basics of combat for the past 2 months 🤣 But if I'm being specific, right now I'm looking at the community's variant rules on gaining archetypes along with a class feature when leveling up. Not quite sure how that works but I'm reading up on it more and more these days.

my favourite homebrew deity is a god of alcoholism and depression. he used to be the god of something else, something far more respectable, but after <insert ancient lore here> he turned to drinking and no one alive today can even remember what he used to be the god of. even other gods have forgotten, so he just ended up being a worthless deity propping up a celestial bar for several thousand years. this naturally makes him more depressed so he drinks more and the cycle renews itself. as a god cant die of alcohol poisoning he just drinks constantly. its so bad that, when a cleric does worship him, the blessings he gives leave them with a kind of second hand drunkenness. enter homebrew cleric subclass that's perpetually drunk. this means that despite him being a legitimate member of the pantheon, he and his followers aren't exactly welcome in temples. town guards also aren't fond of arresting and cleaning up after his followers all the time. last time i did this i made it a key part of the plot to try and restore the gods church to its rightful place, and trying to uncover the truth of who this god actually used to be before his self destruction.

Don’t think you’d need to entirely homebrew a domain. If you want to then by all means. Though I think the trickery domain works well. Seeing double, tripping people up, drunken tomfoolery not just imbued, but enhanced.
@holistichomebrew2 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! I guess i gotta work on a homebrew Cleric domain of the drunken.
