This video was absolutely nauseating. Not to mention you people are so focused on taking worthless video and holding up the track going so slow. If I was behind you and came up on you full speed I would have been pissed! I’m sure you ruined it for everyone else and don’t even care!

insects can go quite a long time without many of their organs, it'll starve to death but cicadas don't live very long in the first place.

Don't worry! Nothing hatched out of your cicada. Likely what happened is another bug, a bird, something had a nice meal though. They didn't finish that big ol shell, and definitely managed to whip it hard enough the head came off. So though the head's alive, it can't do much past eat- And that goes nowhere, so it'll eventually run out of energy and putter out somewhere to pass. Instead, research how bugs operate/ how their internal systems work, that you can learn about how many different bugs can also seemingly survive separated from their body :) Wasps and flys sometimes accidentally decapitate themselves while cleaning, then take off with the head stuck to one of their limb bristles. Even though the two are separated, the body will still fly around according to roughly what they were about to do for a while before puttering out of steam.

It's a fungus that slowly eats their abdomen. It rests in their brain afterwards giving it a steady dose of psilocybin (the "magic" in "magic mushrooms") and amphetamines to keep it endlessly awake and constantly active, trying to mate with other cicadas to spread the fungus.
