I believe that ' the last ship ' also means the last ship that has scheduled a delivery from the Ojibway. That way they do not have to make a special late night/early morning trip to some other ship that is 'last thru the lock ' .... just to deliver pizzas.

The boat is coming against the current ..... Lake Huron starts flowing downhill to Lake Erie at Port Huron. If you want to see something really cool, look for when the ice on Lake Huron starts breaking up in the spring. All the ice goes down the St Clair River and Port Huron is the mouth. The river varies from a big ice slushy to glass blocks as big as cars bobbing into each other for about a week or two ......... the slushy is dead silent, the blocks sound like breaking glass. The boats start using the river while the ice is breaking up, but they go slower. That sounds like a train wreck going by at about 5mph
