1. In Pioneer Square, in addition to the old buildings, there are also modern office buildings. Does this mean that the lower floors, up to the level of the current streets, create something like empty levels or mezzanines? 2. When I explore along 1st Ave on Google Earth, I don’t notice any signs indicating that there’s a second level beneath the street. Does this mean that the elevated streets and sidewalks completely fill the space between the buildings? 3. Is there a clear boundary or visible line where the elevated street network meets the old level below?

Yeah the lower level of the streets were backfilled with dirt and the sidewalk portions were left open, after discovering they needed to build up the grade level to prevent flooding…I would recommend watching this video from @DanielsimsSteiner he does a great job of explaining the process (18:33) kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6eUqqVnr9pjrrMsi=mDPTPqaaG9N7K2kh

This video would be much better if a wider focal length were used and the camera moved around to show the surroundings more. As it is, it gives a poor view of the area covered. If I was unfamiliar with Seattle, it would leave me with a very frustrating, narrow sense of this neighborhood.
