How did you get GNOME to actually allow transparency and theming? Or is that a pre-libadwaita version or something? I've loved it for MANY years, but since they hobbled themes I've switched to KDE (and re-created the GNOME workflow in it).

Virtual memory is overflow for real memory, and is slower. It doesn't speed anything up because hard drive speeds (even NVME) are slower than regular RAM which has direct access to the CPU on the mainboard. Virtual memory is from a time where hard drive space tended to be more than available RAM space.

Really good... Except that biometrics are fundamentally broken and private users don't use hardware tokens... I think it was Starbug who said: "I thought we would have a couple of weeks fun with the iPhone but the fingerprint reader just broke too easily". And it keeps happening. Manufacturers keep improving their biometrics systems but they are hacked time and time again. It's just not working... Also: If it gets hacked, do I need face surgery or new fingerprints to make the system secure again? This biometrics thing is total BS and only works in fully controlled environments (e.g. airport) where a human makes sure that you are not messing with the sensors...

Peppermint Linux is great nice and light on old laptop.

I would have added voyager linux with gnome and xfce hybrid desktop it's like windows and mac os had a baby. it's also an ubuntu based distro so it's very easy to learn.

I used MANDRAKE way back in the day. That distribution has evolved. Mandriva and now Mageia. Easy install. RPM software management is easy.

Reasonable list. I would move Pop!_OS to the second spot personally. Only beef here is that all of the options presented are Debian / Ubuntu derivatives. Would have been nice to see at a least one with a package manager that's not apt.

Without knowing it, I have become a distro hopper. I try all the Debian derivatives because it's the one I feel most comfortable with, in short, I always end up on Pop Os. It is by far the most aesthetic and reliable.

i tried zorin OS xfce edition, it was very unstable, wouldn't recommend to newbies. : /

A video that came at just the right time. I feel that with Windows I end up having more disadvantages than advantages and was thinking about migrating to Linux, but I didn't know where to start.. Well, Mint and Zorin caught my attention... I just hope I don't have to go back to Windows. 😅
