This was great info. I had a close call with a huge GT whilst fishing a land locked lake in SE qld. It was pushing a bow wake on the surface and I estimate it to be 1.2 - 1.4 m long. I was shaking with adrenaline before I even cast at it. It took my lure with an almighty low pitch splash but my drag was set too light. no hook up and probably for the best, being a 40 LB setup. Since then I've made it my mission to catch one, stories like this help a lot. Thanks.

It never ceases to amaze me the fish that turn up in those landlocked systems in SE Queensland. Your story is the kind of stuff that keeps us coming back to fishing and no doubt has causes a few restless night's sleep! I hope you find swift success on your mission.

I feel that person you spoke about in the intro. I have spent 5-6 hours trying about 35 different lures in a particular stretch of water in Perth that I have quite literally seen fish in, and not got so much as a nibble. Weeks at a time. Lures just suck for this part of the world. But you can't use bait because the blowfish just shred everything. It makes fishing an overall exasperating experience, and not a good use of time - especially when I'm trying to encourage my kids to get out of the house and off the screens. Not expecting to catch something every time I go out, but doing research on tides/moon and planning and getting skunked for weeks at a time just does my head in.

Yes, it can be a challenge, the old puffers can be exasperating. Jump over to my website and post me a message with a little more detail on where you're fishing and I'll see if I can come up with some useful advice ;-) doclures.com/contact/

gday mate, I've only put a handful of podcast episodes up on YT so far, but I'm slowly increasing the number I publish. Todd's episode is still on the doclures.com website, spotify, apple podcasts etc, but I haven't managed to get it up on YT yet. I'll make a point of getting it out in the next few days ;-)

Thanks Greg and David, found this interview very interesting. Always wanted to fish these dams, David's knowledge of the area makes me want to do it even more. My Dad worked on Petrie Dam and Lake Kurwongbah, I remember going to work with him on school holidays as he went around blocking off all the access roads to the water by digging trenches across them.

*work the lure ALL The way back in , yep, even if ya don't get a strike, sometimes a curious fish follows the lure in / checking it out. In clear water you can sometimes get to see them , then a; get an indication of what's about and b; get encouragement to stay working the spot a bit longer / differently. Plus you get to SEE the fish just being a Fish : )

If your transducer is located at the stern of your boat and you are staring at your fish finder. As the fish is showing on the screen from right to left, how do I interpret that on the water. Is it that when the fish is on the right side of the screen moving towards the left means right is underneath you(back of the boat under the transducer) moving towards back of the boat ( behind the transducer?)

So as a simrad representative you are reluctant to discuss deep drop setting due to some other fisherman. That You quote will use you for bait, that sounds like simrad does not axcualy want to help fisherman " all the way" that's what it sounds like to me. So your costumer service is just sub par then
@ianbertenshaw43502 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg , That is one awesome feature on your website and being able to fine tune your lure choices before you go is something that will not only help a fisho to catch more fish but save a few dollars as well ! Just want to add that i finally got to listen to the Dr Ben Diggles episode on scents - this is something ALL lure fishos must listen to no excuses ! After listening to that and how some scents could be repelling fish , especially those developed for the US market i am now wary of some of the products available .
@doclures2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words Ian. And, yes, Ben Diggles is a very smart cookie. I learnt plenty from that interview myself and like yourself now view scents in a different light. Kind of funny how so many of us turn to scents when the fishing is tough when the wrong scent could actually make things tougher! I also thought the info about not overdoing scent was very important!
