I visited Boldt Castle with my parents in the late '50's. I was about 10 but I've never forgotten it.. It was totally derelict at that time. No windows, floors. The grand staircase was rudely crafted 2X4's. Beautiful imported statues were scattered over the property. Griffiti over many walls. Such a sad site, possibly reflecting the sad story of the castle -- what it was planned to be and what it tragically became. I remember the child's cottage where they lived while the castle was being built. And the wonderful boat house. And no gardens, of course; just unkempt rubble and weeds. But still absolutely marvelous and, after all these years, a treasured childhood memory. Wonderful to see the restoration or, perhaps, final realization..

I like to go once a year and see what they have finished. When I 1st went as a kid the stairs were not done either, I remember that!

I operated a Case steam engine for our local agri museum, what really amazed me was the skill needed to travel from farm to farm thru the hills and valleys of some of the areas. There was no brakes, only the action of working the steam cylinder itself to control its speed. There were no guards on any of the threshers and other equipment, there were always "old timers" missing arms, hands, fingers. Sure different these days. I love anything steam from the days I was a kid going on the SS Admiral excursion boat on the Mississippi in St. Louis, Mo.

Hi! I just stumbled across your video (on May 6, 2023) and, after checking my calendar, realized that I was also at Boldt Castle on June 3, 2022! What a small world! lol. I live in Michigan and was visiting a friend of mine who lives in Canton NY and this was our first day of doing touristy things in upstate NY. I have to say that your video really shows the beauty of this property. Thank you for sharing it. Watching it brought back memories of a lovely day spent in Alexandria Bay. My only question is how did you manage to get so much good footage with only a few people in any of it?? We were there late morning/early afternoon and there was a decent number of people all around the property the whole time we were there. There was even a wedding finishing up as we walked around outside! Great video and thanks again for sharing it. 😊

Thanks, I go at least once a year. I have other videos of other visits on my channel from previous trips. I try not to go on weekends, it's less busy during the week.

I thought I also saw some car show videos on your channel. I'd like to look at those as well. My dad had a 1959 Pontiac Bonneville and a 1967 Cadillac (both convertibles) for many years and I've been to a number of car shows myself. Thanks for responding to my comment!
