I have a Gibson Les Paul Custom and a PRS McCarty 594. The Les Paul has a thicker tone and breaks up a little more than the 594 as the pickups are the hotter 60s LP. The McCarty 594 has easier access to the high frets. Its not bottom heavy like the LP. Quality is better on the PRS and the D and G strings stay in tune better due to the smarter headstock on the PRS. Overall, all I enjoy playing the 594 more. It has more tones as well with the split pickup option.

Yes, it was pretty obvious that the Les Paul was far better in this video as well. Thanks for your comment!

So, do you still own it? It sure looks nice but I’m leaning toward a regular custom shop standard SG because yours sounds a little bit too much like a Les Paul with the Ebony style neck etc.… It looks bad ass though… I like the gold hardware. What do you think now after four years? Come on, be honest

Great store, story and philosophy and a must "read" for anyone selling on Reverb or any Guitar exchange medium. So many sellers have no clue how to grade a guitar, present it in the fashion you are speaking about. I taught Marketing, Advertising and other business related courses for 15 years, worked in Pharma sales for 15 years and currently my brother and I are running the family businesses after all parents passed in 2018. I practice what I preach and you are right on the spot with your "method in the madness"! You must know two things, YOUR PRODUCT AND YOUR CUSTOMER! Then, follow-up, ALWAYS!!! GREAT VIDEO AND CONGRATS FOR G-BRAT'S!!! My buying is not over, so, I'll be in touch!!!

I have a 57 Gibson Les Paul Custom reissue and it has a fantastic tone. The tone that the PRS Mccarty 594 emulates. Like others have said, the Les Paul has a snarl that the Mccarty lacks. I had a 2019 PRS Mccarty 594 in Blood Orange that I sold to fund the 57 Les Paul. I hated to do it because that Mccarty was a great guitar, but there could be only one (Highlander reference)! I plan on getting another Mccarty sometime in the future. For now I’ll make do with my 57 and my 2007 PRS Custom 24. PRS and Gibson. You gotta have at least one of each! UPDATE: I actually got back the McCarty 594 that I sold. The exact one! It was up on Reverb from Chicago Music Exchange. I was like “that looks like my old PRS.” Looked at the serial number. “IT IS MY OLD PRS!!!” So I bought it back. I now have a ‘59 Les Paul reissue and another PRS Custom 24. The family just keeps growing!

Im hoping PRS starts using the mini toggles like on the PAULS guitars to split coils, on 594. I have 3 Pauls guitars, and 2 35th anniversaries and far prefer the switches to push pull pots.

Nice video. I have both along with a SG, ES 335, Custom 24. Looking at the Custom 24 Floyd maybe next. All different guitars. Fenders, Jackson and Ibanez included. They all get played. Out of the two here my personal preference would be both. The Les Paul is a heavy tone monster and the PRS fits like a glove and a bit more comfortable and versatile to me.

As nice a top as it gets...but what an UNFORTUNATE color choice. It's just a notch above Clown Vomit. I'd put that one in the sunlight and pray for the color to completely fade out very quickly.

I got the idea however, my ear wants you to use the same bass riff when sampling: 1. front pickup 2. rear pickup 3. both pickups This will be much earier to contrast the differences:) Beautiful bass there!

Have them Both . Both Bring it . Have Duane Allman 59 VOS. 59 Historic Les Paul. 594 Solid Body and Full Hollowbody 594. Both Tones Mingle real Well Together. Like OLD School Muscle. New Muscle work as well . Les Paul you have to Work it a bit more. PRS is Refined . 594 won't be going away. Modern Classic. Nailed it . PRS I only like Certain Ones. PRS are more Consitant. If you have a good Les Paul Usually they stay put. Mine do . Depend what Colour Pallet you want to use. Like Amps.

I suppose the good new is the LP sounds like and LP should but it’s been and remains my opinion that the PRS McCarty wins the tone, features and reliability battle hands down every time. I’m a huge fan.

Without the covers on the humbuckers, that’ll make the guitar sound more aggressive sounding, and I believe it can eliminate the microphonic squeals.

Nice playing , and proper demo with NO PEDALS . Boy , there's no mistaking that sound . I think those are custombuckers . This was about the last of the reasonably priced customs , so I could live with the Richlite board given that everything else is spot on

I'm a little late to the party here, but the stacked pot knob is treble and bass. The lowest knob on relation to the edge of the body is mid. The 3 way switch if it is a standard build is a mid frequency switch. The other 2 knobs are pickup selector and volume. Hope that helps. All the best.
