An odd design with tons of hull below and very little light up top. Looks like it should have galley slaves

Really nice boat, but she needs a lot of work. Based simply on the photos, the electronics are ancient, as is the plumbing. A closer inspection is likely to uncover more in need of repair. That means upwards of 100k, possibly as much as 300k Euros/Pounds and at least a year before she's ready to sail. Been watching this boat (and others) for over a year now, because I'll be in the market for something of this calibre early next year, but I suspect this will take too much work. For 500k I think I can do much better, but above all, I won't have to wait a year before going sailing!

I’ve always liked these boats. I like the three cabin layout for kids/visitors and the large saloon down gives a nice separation of space. But, engine access is tight vs a trawler and I’ve wondered about where the dinghy goes. But for coastal cruising (which is all most of us aspire to!) I’d put this near the top of my list. Interesting, different and beautiful boat.

Is this the boat that has been refurbished after a large fire that nearly wrote it off
@GrabauInternational2 ай бұрын
Hi, Yes. She suffered a small fire in the pilot house, resulting in smoke damage elsewhere in the boat. She has since benefitted from a comprehensive refit, and the boat was fully surveyed afterwards (twice-by her then owner and by the current owner). The only signs now that anything has happened in her early years are that everything in the boat feels much newer and in better condition than you would expect from a boat of her build year.

@@Timothy_Pitt the first older ones have more appeal to people . Maybe the first 50. In America you can find the ones made in Canada somebody bought the molds . I know where a 32 is in Delaware that sunk . It’s at a dock now . You could get it for the dock fees owed . Then your left with a hull and mast . The older ones have fiberglass decks . No core. I’d say for a new one . 325 thousand maybe 275

@@paulsharman Where is Is the tipping point in age, when costs of maintenance become too high to justify owning a boat like this?

@@Timothy_Pitt Verry subjective that. But I think you would take around 25 years + to spend the cost difference between this yacht and the Cost of same spec |NEW on maintenance. 🙂

Lunstroo, a well known Dutch yachtarchitect of traditional sailngvessels. Very nice design, not for inland waters but real seagoing. The staysail rig is an ideal proposal for a crew of two, even if you are very skilled, you can handle the boat in your own. The Ford Sabre is similar to the Mermaid, rugged but quite smoky. Uses approx 6-8 liters per hour. With the long and deep keel configuration it is the go anywhere boat. The interior is even fit for chartering. This is a big recommendation! And believe me : The Finnish know their business!
