0:29 Isn't that the Y cable for the autodim mirror install? Why did you go with the OBD port install?
@phil_hazzy24 күн бұрын
It's been a while since I installed this and eventually I did replace it with another and added the power outlet to the auto dimming mirror. I don't believe that cable is for the mirror though since the install required the ignition module which definitely wouldn't tuck up there easily.

I have a 2017 Tahoe. I want to remove the aluminum strip to paint it. I thought I'd pop out the entire molding then a heat gun to remove the strip. Any better recommendations?
@phil_hazzyАй бұрын
Not exactly sure how that one is put together but it could be more of a project than you might imagine. The sill would be simple enough to take out. The metal strip maybe held in by one of three methods; glue, clips, or plastic welded. If it's welded or glued in, a novel approach might be to use that plasti-dip paint to paint over the entire plastic sill, then clean off the aluminum strip and paint it. Once that's all dry, peel the dip off the rest of the part! Might save you some headaches from having to try to glue it back in place. If it's clipped in, the pull it apart and paint away.

I’m in a predicament and I’m hoping that you can point me in the right direction. I bought a 2023 ZR2 over a year ago, and bought the kicker sub from the dealership at the same time. I decided not to install it because I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of pulling all the wiring to swap it into my HD ZR2 When it arrived. I took delivery on my HD ZR2(24), and had the dealership install the system that I bought for my 23 1500 ZR2. It isn’t working. The dealership service department claims that the system isn’t for the 24 HD’s. So I decided to come to KZbin U and see if I couldn’t troubleshoot it myself, and lo and behold, it is the model without the dip switches. Am I SOL? If so, what’s a good alternative solution to get this rear floor decoration running? I can’t exchange it even though it’s brand new, because I bought it over a year ago.
@phil_hazzy2 ай бұрын
@@natearriaga5733 it's the same part number (isn't it?) so I don't know why it wouldn't be working. I'd start by checking the fuse but the battery. Maybe they forgot to put that in? I believe there's an LED on the amp so see if it's lit up. Gotta at least have power to make it run! That's where I'd start.
@natearriaga57332 ай бұрын
@@phil_hazzy to my knowledge, it is the same part number but I am gonna do a deeper dive into it as the dealership is claiming that they went as far as contacting Kicker and claimed that Kicker said that it isn’t compatible with my truck. All of the forums, all of the groups, and everywhere else that I’ve scrounged is saying that it’s universal to this generation of the Silverado, HD or not. As for power, it’s definitely receiving power as the lights you mentioned are definitely functioning. I’ll look into the fuses in the meantime. I’m getting to the point where I am contemplating going to an audio shop to have them troubleshoot it if I can’t figure it. I’m just trying to do as much homework as possible, but I’m hitting dead ends. I can’t be the only one who is dealing with this if what the dealership is saying is true.

Had a knob setup on my old car but I can’t for the life of me figure out where I’d place the dam thing. I thought about the spot you have yours in the video but that feels too much to reach it. I definitely want to avoid any direct drilling in any visible spots. Could always glue but where to run the wire if not exactly where yours is?
@phil_hazzy4 ай бұрын
@clydecash5659 pretty much anywhere you put it that's out of sight will be a bit of a reach but there's a couple of places that I like. Where I put this one is my favorite but there's a spot by the hood release that works too. Wiring can just stay behind the driver kick panel if you don't want to run under the carpet. I've also seen the knob placed below the HVAC controls. I'm not a fan of that placement because I like the clean look. Either way, it's up to you! Hit me up if you have questions!
