Love watching how gentle you are with the BT dogs. I would love to try and do it. Qs how often should a BT be stripped?
@dogsofpride15742 ай бұрын
Thank you so much - no need to be any other way with them as it should be a pleasurable experience "at the spa!" To keep a terrier in a good well maintained coat (as many are shown with slightly different lengths in different areas) they should have the coat rolled every 4-6 weeks. This is easier on them and on the groomers hands too!

What’s the little tool you are using to pull the hair…she looks amazing by the way. I payed for a hand strip for my dog, but he didn’t come back like the ones I’ve watched on utube so I’m wondering how much stripping if any they actually did, and it wasn’t cheap.
@dogsofpride15746 ай бұрын
Hi! Not sure which one you're asking about but at the start I'm using a shipping stone and later using a stripping knife (the metal tool with the wooden handle. Hand stripping is a LOT of work so won't be cheap, you also have to be very regular to see a real difference in maintaining a "proper" coat. One to the reasons I did these videos many years back is because there weren't many groomers in the area who could hand strip nor clients willing to pay or be regular so I taught a lot how to do it themselves... they either did very well or learned how to be more appreciative of their groomers! Good luck with either option!

From watchin all 3 parts of "hand strippin" it looks like when I get my BT puppy its best to groom very lightly so they get used to it and just keep at it once a week and the dog should enjoy it...3 great videos I've learnt alot today..thanks..

John, you're an absolute star for watching all 3 in one day! You are totally right, little and often and then it's not a chore for either you or the dog. I had a rescue Sealyham when I was younger so I have a soft spot for them! ♥️ Would you consider carding a wiry coat as de-shedding? I'm struggling getting the right technique for carding, I can't seem to get the angle right and I'm worried about cutting the coat 🙁

Thanks for the explanations Wendie! I'm working on establishing a rolled coat on my (show) Irish Wolfhound. It's coming along well but as you can imagine it's quite a job! 😬 Thankfully, after 6 weeks, I can already feel an improvement in the texture of his coat as opposed to when we'd strip him down to his underwear a few times a year. Now I just have to persevere. 👍

@lindapolze77693 жыл бұрын
What is white brush that you are using?
@dogsofpride15743 жыл бұрын
It is not a brush, it is a stripping stone. It provides grip to the hair and then the technique is to hold some hairs against it to help pull them out of the coat. With a proper technique you will only remove dead hair which is ready to release and not well rooted still growing hair, therefore it does not hurt.

@dogsofpride15743 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it. If your Cocker is going to be shown, then yes the back is stripped. Your breeder should be the best person to ask about this! The fine airy stuff can have a tendency to grow back coarser when stripped properly, though not to destroy the correct pattern. Perhaps a product like the Texture paste from Pure paws would also help, or a good finishing spray to reduce the static. (try Pure Paws Finishing spray or Finnessiam SCENTsitive (scent free) Leave-In/Detangle spray. Take care.

@dogsofpride15743 жыл бұрын
Glad you like them. Check out your local groomers and ask who has experience or specialises in hand stripping, ask to see photos of their work or references even! You could also check sites of the professional association websites and see if there is anyone in your area listed as certified. nationaldoggroomers.com/groomer-locator <- try here first. Still ask for examples though! Also, if you are looking for a professional to keep your girl in "proper" coat, that you will need to be doing frequent appointments - stripping a coat properly requires very regular maintenance - failure to agree to a groomers' protocol in this area, may result in them dropping you as a client. Good luck!
