ANDY FUCHS, You mentioned that the S/N Signal to noise ratio gets worse using Send/Return effects loop circuits on the back of the amplifier instead of the front of the amplifier. Why would the signal to noise ratio increase and get worse using the send/return effects loop circuit locate it in the back of the amplifiers compared to locating it in the front of the amplifier?
@andyfuchs525210 ай бұрын
As much as I hate my own voice, I listened to this entire video and nowhere do I mention anything about the FX loop or s/n ratio. To be clear: The loop is in-circuit whether you use it or not, as it is also used to mix in the reverb. Using external effects (with send and return levels set appropriately), should not affect the noise level of the amp at all. Unless the external effect itself is adding noise, the loop itself would not add noise. Like any effects loop, it works best when run at unity gain, so the level with the loop used or the loop NOT used, should be the same. IF you add gain from the loop (and you are welcome to do that), it could potentially add noise, since you have added more gain to the whole SYSTEM.

Thanks 4 watt amp.
@fuchsaudiotech3 жыл бұрын
Hi Leon: You may be confusing wattage with sensitivity. If the amp is difficult to adjust at bedroom volume, you can put a volume pedal or volume control box in the loop, which would act as a global master volume and let you run the amp controls higher up. www.ebay.com/itm/164827847192?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D235874%26meid%3D91c2ab9305494bab8c492e4fefd8a457%26pid%3D101195%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D142640668969%26itm%3D164827847192%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv9PairwiseWebMskuAspectsV202110NoVariantSeed%26brand%3DElectro-Harmonix&_trksid=p2047675.c101195.m1851&amdata=cksum%3A16482784719291c2ab9305494bab8c492e4fefd8a457%7Cenc%3AAQAGAAACIHfb8t1KCbZ%252Bvls9mqNrvj%252B0cSCqC51YIdSaw%252FpBsA8iBlbJndrscV2gnxdcUs0xT%252BbDjLquEy%252Beqt9XXd1tAsjhmg4qHaDwmbqva%252B53gzAxfr%252BraUx24IBkNT6oEbeJmv0tKJT88bZf7akQGt5i0aus8UqEPacZ7hVhGtyhxe%252FZqGAuDH3lkbHXX%252B7dsfqsDWx%252BFAAvUDyDrgDqV%252F%252FPP7nDRQW0rac15XzPRq4ttzbbkoPdeLgam9xEMNSxDR058MAzM7hDN7YeqDrULH%252FoQTpHBAwbJiFdOjyBk19sMNi3xFLtZZQxBg2zYmi46ihDGrMgLvUoy4glIzvZ5SaGYsiTkdwuV3OwMc5jp3tmKqiLnuyJSTuoFfcd6%252FTyECuVkRI41Gp5D9Ybsta01DXbus3CZz27%252BmEs4KNC5XjjrEfqP5SzIXrEJ6YA0gyPWIzUyCF4IBPEGnFXhPcZ7ZBycuV5xStWFv5P7K%252FRyGQ%252Fi15HdHipzLwyx9BvRTYVD%252FX43kIYAPac%252BU4lUs%252F0Fq5AB3Z9%252Bj0zD2jSuyPsl%252FTJ7Zv3wk4MwXHE5Ki2quYcJGgVWWeHE9tmhvaG7oZuXdknKo5sDqUwKvTYbcFt8OpHZosHv7Ec9f0O7ChLr5y5KzJorTlLILvOxUjjOLP%252BoVYLVxZ91H3q8Hmm9juLsX4fppM%252Bps4KsWVmT0UXgSIqX2TKyS%252BYIvLFoIdKQr46bujDUfI%253D%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2047675&epid=133893750

Not a fan. Purchased a Marshall head and cab. Andy worked on it and said it was all good. Picked it up from the buyer and the reverb tank was shot. Brought it to Andy in Clifton and he said, oh yeah, this was here a few weeks ago. Reverb tank's gone. I have one here. I'll only charge ya $40 (I have the invoice). $40 for a $20 used reverb tank and 7 minutes of work, when the Amp passed all his tests just 2 weeks prior. Yeah, not a fan. Of course, he took me through this warehouse/shop trying to interest me in one of his. At least he and his wife were pleasant enough, but that was just an insult! You inspected and tested the Amp and then charged $20 over on a used part? I said I was even going to order it new and install it myself, but he insisted on "taking care of me". Um, yeah, thanks?

Honestly, this isn't the forum for this (since manufacturing and our service business are two separate entities) and this is youTube, but since you chose to do it here and not in an e-mail or a phone call, we'll respond: To be clear: Reverb pans are electro-mechanical devices, which include, the suspension coils, the reverb springs, the transducers and tiny wires etc. That pan could have worked totally fine here in our shop, and in the car trip home that pan could have failed from bouncing around in the car. While we may have seen the amp previously (for the original owner), I don't know whether we replaced that pan (in which case it would have been changed under warrantee) or we actually did any work relating to the reverb in the amp. I don't know that the customer didn't say "Don't fix the reverb, I never use it"...no idea. We have a warranty on the repairs WE DO. Had we replaced the pan and it failed it would have been covered under warranty. Since it appears it was not under warranty, all we asked for was our actual cost of the pan (no additional labor). A Reverb pan SELLS for about $ 30.00 on Mojotone's website (for example) so you basically paid for the pan and the UPS shipping and zero markup. In-fact, it may have even cost us a few bucks. Here's a question: If you just had your car tuned up and then got a flat, or your transmission failed, or the radio stopped working, would you expect the mechanic to give you a new tire or repair the transmission free ? I'm betting no. Seriously, our reputation for service and the products we make is outstanding for a reason; we take care of people fairly, promptly, and we implicitly back the actual work we have done. Additionally, you stated that you purchased the amp used AFTER we serviced it for someone else , so you're not even the primary customer who had the work done but we were certainly fair and accommodating as we always are. Again, even so, we've had amps we repaired get resold and honored the repair warranty to the new owner ON THE WORK WE DID. You are welcome to contact us via e-mail if you wish to discuss this further.

Sounds great with a strat. But someday someone will come along and invent electric guitars that are hollow in the middle. Mark my word.
@angusorvid88403 жыл бұрын
One thing Andy has in common with Alex Dumble is that both men are fine guitarists. They know how a good amp should feel, the biofeedback element, that very alive element that only tubes can deliver. Andy's amps are very bit the equal of Dumble's, but I'd say better. If you don't know why, just try one of each, and if you can compare them in the same place, all the better. I played through a Dumble Overdrive Special in the 80s at a boutique shop in L.A. and was very impressed. But the owner of the amp did not want to sell it, just wanted to show it off to the shop owner, and would not sell the amp. I remember he was offered about ten grand and said, "no way". The Fuchs ODS sounds every bit as great as that Dumble, but it's got some special tweaks and is very much its own amp. It has a very sweet, reactive overdrive that's really hard to put your finger on, but it's simply outstanding. These amps have to be played to be believed. If I had the money to get an ODS or a Boogie, I'd get the ODS.

Hey Andy, I'm considering this amp but I'm confused about the effects loop. I've seen the back of the amp, and it seems like there isn't an input for both send and return. I only saw one input. It said send =tip, return = ring, I don't get it. What am I missing? Thx for your help. BTW, love the tone!
@andyfuchs52524 жыл бұрын
The jack is a TRS (tip, ring sleeve) and you use an insert-cable, which means the tip is the power amp input, the ring is the send out to the effect, plug ground of course. These are available anywhere like Guitar Center, Musicians Friend, Sweetwater etc
