This very youtube of Antonio Meneses and Maria João Pires playing Beethoven's Cello concerto is what I listen to every night to go to sleep by. I am so saddened by the news that this wonderful cellist is no longer with us! What a wonderful cellist he was. Many condolences to his family and all the musicians who had the honor of playing with him!! He will not be forgotten!!

Nocturne is simple. This interpretation of this F Major nocturne seems to argue for simplicity, both in the slow theme and the fast theme. You can argue for simplicity in a slow way or in a fast way, but the point is the same.

At my 89th birthday I gave up birthdays, also, God has given me the blessings of composing music, Love songs, Gospel Songs, Classical songs. Murray Perahia's immense gift is that he makes almost everything sound poetical and 'inevitable'. The piece unfolds naturally and logically, so much so that the listener feels as if he could have written it. Perhaia's timing and phrasing are impeccable.

I played the Intermezzo from this before I stopped learning. I love the whole piece, though, and this is a wonderfully muscular, energetic performance with gorgeous subtlety by way of contrast. I love it. I've been listening to it played by different pianists for a while this afternoon and most people seem to play fast and loose with the instructions from the composer to the player, especially when it comes to time. This is a real treat, however.
