Do you have to realign "safe area" everytime you start a new section? You are the only person I can find that has a video of Judy Neimeyer digitize pattern for longarms. I hope you do more videos.

Hi there! So if you move the quilt on the rails then Yes you will have to realign the safe area! :) I am definitely hoping to do some more! Her digital patterns are pretty fun to use! Takes a bit of time and patience, but it’s worth it! :) Enjoli

I've got a Judy Niemeyer in my future, so this is super helpful! Can I ask why not use "morph to fit" in the diamonds?
@doodlequiltingstudio4172 күн бұрын
Hi there! Ok so, if I can remember (as its been a bit since I did this video ;) ) I believe what I was doing was trying to keep the shape of the diamond centered to look as close to “true” as it should, verses skewing it to make it fit the pieced diamond. I hope that makes sense! Hah Basically I didn’t want it to be “too stretched out” by the morphing. Honestly I probably could have done that as the piecing for this one was pretty spot on, it likely would have looked just fine! :) Enjoli

My 5 month old Q16 will not progress past the turn on screen. It says “User Update” on the top and “checking update on stick” at the bottom. I have tried to update the firmware and it will not progress past “loading bootloader”. My dealer is closed today and I can’t find troubleshooting for this issue in line. I am so disappointed. I am NOT on Facebook.

Hi there! My experience with this error is that your machine may be one that only requires the 3 file update instead of the standard 4 file update. Unfortunately this is only fixable by a trained technician. I would try to give them a call as soon as they are open next! They should be able to get you up and running again pretty quick! I know it is a frustrating issue, but they should be able to get your machine updated and running again for you! :) Enjoli

@doodlequiltingstudio41711 күн бұрын
@@tracykeenan4449 yes it can be tricky too - sometimes if I’ve really stretched the design to take up most of the safe area I am moving the quilt back and forth a few times to get it so my design will be centered in the safe area! As long as you can move the sew head back to the take up rail and it still moves freely in the space you should be safe to realign at that spot!

My Q20 bobbin case constantly needs to be retention. It doesn't matter if I use a pre wound bobbin or wined my own, it loosen tension throughout quilting the same bobbin???? For example i quilted a 35 x50 area and the tension started to loosen. It had only just been serviced. Could the screw/case be faulty? 🤷♀️
@doodlequiltingstudio4175 ай бұрын
Hmm.. it shouldn't need to be re-tensioned that often. It could be an issue with the screw. You could take it by your dealer to have checked out. I honestly recommend always having a back up bobbin case (and bobbin case spring) - which I know is expensive but if you have an issue like that or drop it or anything you'll be happy you had it. I use it for trouble shooting at times too. Just to weed out issues. Double check that you have the thread all the way under the spring when threading the bobbin case too.

Hi, I just got my Q24 about a week ago. So much to learn. You mentioned lots of different thread brands, but you did not mention Glide. Do you use glide thread? Does Helga like it ? Also, how about red snappers? Do you use them? Thanks in advance.
@doodlequiltingstudio4176 ай бұрын
Hi there! Congrats on your new machine!! :) Yes, I use Glide on Helga! She loves it - I run it at a similar setting to the Isacord thread (can't remember now if I mentioned that one or not?). I'm due to make another of these videos with some updated information! :) So for me (on Helga) I run Glide at a top tension setting of 3.5 or 3.25 depending on if I have the same thread in the bobbin or not. I have not used red snappers personally but plan to get a set and give them a try. I know a few other Q Owners that have them and LOVE them! I think it's going to just be whatever you become comfortable with. I have the most experience with pins so thats what I use on a day to day basis. I'll get my hands on some red snappers and work on an updated video! :) Thanks for watching - feel free to let me know if you have any other questions! :) Enjoli

What batting do you typically use to quilt collage quilts? It almost looks like you are using flannel. I’m Dreaming of a Q24!
@doodlequiltingstudio417 Жыл бұрын
Hi there - I am typically using Quilters Dream Bamboo. It is a blend of cotton, bamboo, silk and tencel. Its nice because it doesn't add bulk but still gives nice dimension to the quilting! :) The Q24 is really a great machine! Happy Quilting! Enjoli

Really enjoying your videos, speaking about machines personality my Q20 seems to have a lot of trouble with wonderfil 80wt (breaking thread or shedding) what tension would you recommend and needle? And also do u use Deco bob bobbins?
@doodlequiltingstudio417 Жыл бұрын
Hi Tam! Thanks so much! So, I have had a similar issue with trying to use Bottom Line as top thread! I did have to lower my tension (around 3 I think?!) and slow down my stitching - which is always hard for me! Also try a smaller needle so maybe a topstitch or stretch 70/10. It is scary (for me) to use small needles like that but for such a fine thread it helps. I have used Deco Bob bobbins before but mostly find that I need to wind my own for the colors that I want. Have you seen this AMAZING cheat sheet from Superior Threads? (cag-st-images.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/EducationalCenter/EcPdfs/home-machine-thread-reference-guide.pdf) I use this a lot for finding a starting point for new threads. Even though its does not have wonderfil threads on it you can likely find something similar to get an idea on where to start with needle and tension! :) Hope this helps! Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions! Enjoli

Hi I am comparing different brands and live rurally. With things sort of opening back up here in OR I am planning to go to the big Quilting Expo in PDX. Gammill is the only big longarm company listed as a vendor. What is the actual quilting space on the Q24? Is there automated advance and reverse options? Is there a powered option for elevating and lowering the frame? Thanks for all of your great information!
@doodlequiltingstudio4172 жыл бұрын
Hi Kathy! As far as largest design (when using qmatic) goes I’d say for making sure you have space when you get to the bottom of the quilt don’t go bigger than 16”-17” inches. You can go up to I think 18” but sometimes depending on the design you may have to do resizing to fit your safe area at the bottom. For free-motion you have about 20” of quilting space, less if you’re using your ruler work tray as it takes up some space. There is no automatic advance/reverse for advancing your quilt - none on any machine on the market that I know of. You can add hydraulics to the frame, which makes raising/lowering the height of the machine super easy! If you want hydraulics I definitely recommend getting them on the initial set up, as they are much harder to install later! :) Hope this helps! Happy Shopping! Quilt Expo would be a great way to see other machines. I would guess that Bernina would be there, I think they’ve been going to shows recently! They’ll likely be listed with other sewing machine dealers as they typically go representing their domestic machines and long arm machines!

Hi Kathy! You can purchase the couching foot to go on the longarm. There are a two options - one is the Bernina Couching Foot #43 and the other is the #72 Rulerwork foot with the couching inserts. Both are great, it will mostly depend on what size of thread/yarn you want to couch with! :)

I have a question about your bobbin tension. How do you usually set the bobbin tension when you change a top tension according to diverse threads? Thanks.
@doodlequiltingstudio4172 жыл бұрын
Hi Emily! I set my bobbin case tension with the gauge that came with the machine - I set it to read 220 no matter what thread I put in it. Rarely do I have to deviate from that setting. I can typically adjust my top tension to compensate if it seems to be pulling thread to the top or bottom!

@doodlequiltingstudio4175 жыл бұрын
Monica Pharo hey there! Thank you, it’s nice to know this content is helping someone!😜 I was actually just thinking I need to do an updated blog post on why I chose the Bernina! The main reason is that my family owns a quilt shop and Bernina dealership so I had been using it for a couple years in our shop before I bought my own! My mom had a Gammill - an old one- so not much of a comparison, but there were things on the Bernina that I felt made the whole process easier! I really didn’t even consider another brand, but as I’m replying here I am writing the blog post- I’ll elaborate more there on what factors I considered and why and how you can narrow down what is important to you! I’ll have it posted tonight! But, just in case you’re doing some online browsing tonight, there are a lot of options - price and size and accessories with HandiQuilter! I feel like so much depends on if you can find a good local dealer too! Feel free to email me more questions too: [email protected]
