In the lecture titled "Don't Be Quick To Jump To Conclusions | Daf Yomi Bava Batra 146 Matmonim," Rabbi David Lapin delves into the Talmudic discussions of Bava Batra 146, emphasizing the importance of thorough analysis and caution before forming conclusions. He illustrates how the Talmud encourages critical thinking and the avoidance of hasty judgments, highlighting the value of considering multiple perspectives and the complexities inherent in legal and ethical decision-making. This approach fosters a deeper understanding and promotes more informed and thoughtful conclusions.

We will miss you this week Rab Lapin. This concept of undena reminds me of the language that my wife speaks, and I assume all women… She says something and according to my understanding, her intentions don’t match the words I listen literally. I suppose this is a kind of undena.

"Breadth of thinking". Thank you Rabbi for this expression of the width, breadth and depth of Halachic consideration. This is is very reassuring to hear. Minority opinions need to be heard and included in the congregation and hierarchy, so that nobody (other than the rebellious) is obliged to be left behind.

It was actually a rhetorical question. As a Jew I wish more of my brethren would wear attire appropriate to our middle Eastern origins rather than attire that apes a narrow group of goyim during a narrow period of time.

As I understand from the references you used the whole underlying for establishing the inheritance rights is to give preference to continuity, which is more clearly established by a definite gender. That is not the case with the tumtum. But how would it be the case that a tumtum has adopted a child by the time of the inheritance, thus establishing the possibility of continuity? Even further, what if the adoption happens after the inheritance moment? Regarding the references which you have used, are there any established rabbinical rulings which were based on them, specially in the old times?

Very interesting. Tumtum (Timtum) seem under Halachic law to be potentially excluded from inheritance, dependant on agreements with siblings, potentially creating a separate (ostracised?) group within the wider Jewish community. My understanding of Torah may be at odds with Rabbinic reading. I see Men and Women as the gender different definitions of the procreative congregation, from whom all offspring are produced. Yet we clearly have the definition of Eunuch and Angel in scripture, with Angels defined as androgynous and subservient to Men, lest they fall from grace (into the "pit") due to excessive pride. My concern regards the Eunuchs, using the Muslim phrase: "Those who do not have the technique with Women." The interpretation and social/spiritual status of Isaiah 54:4-7 seems very important, even if the 1st Temple Eunuchs' behaviour seemed to have accelerated its destruction (implied in Ezekiel 8). There was clearly a class of people in Biblical time (as we have today) of non-procreative Males and Females who had to choose whom they spiritually serve. From the Christian scriptures, Matthew 19:12 "For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this receive it." It seems to me that the 1st Temple was lost possibly due to Eunuch misbehaviour, while the 2nd Temple was lost due to Jewish Mens' misbehaviour. This suggests that different group phallic impulses saw off both temples by hierarchically competing misbehaving groups. The chaotic spirit of Amalek. Holiness is clearly difficult to maintain. Thank you Rabbi.

A variation on the R Yochanan ben Zakkai greeting practice: About 20 years ago I was walking with R' Yosef Rubanowitz in L.A. A dull looking person walked past us. Lover of all humanity as I am ;-) I said "good morning" but, dullard as he was, no return greeting was offered. R' Rubanowitz challenged me: "You are trying to be like R' YbZ? Do you think he spent all his walking time abandoning his great thoughts and just greeted every Tom, Dick, and Harry within hailing distance? Look carefully at the words of the Gemara. It does NOT say he greeted everybody. It says 'nobody greeted HIM FIRST.' In other words, he was so sensitive and intuitive that he sensed when somebody was about to greet HIM, and he always managed to greet that sensitive and friendly person first. We need not assume that he wasted his time and vocal chords on anybody and everybody."

I took notes, this is an amazing shiur and sent to family and friends. A state of being, not accumulation- we do not master it, the Torah master us. Immersion in Torah, being in the Teivah (ark). The world becomes your Rebbe when you are immersed. When Rav Dessler taught it, when Rebbe Yohanan ben Zakai learned this Torah, never in his life did he miss greeting someone, he greeted all of them and noticed them. The lowest Talmid in the middle course, that is the image of a true Talmid Chacham. And the parables of the laundrywomen...understand trees, and conversations of angels...all his time he was learning Torah- what about the other wisdoms? Hashem opened his heart to learn them. 'I will fill their mind with wisdom'. Yasher Koach. The Ben Ish Hai and Rav Haim Volovhiner in Ruach HaChaim, when you start learning Torah, and you are not distracted and go deeper and deeper and do not turn the page- you will discover and you will get passion to learn more and more. There are layers after layers. If you go deeply enough, you will see the blueprint of the world.
