Lol Lydian and Mixolydian can't both be chaotic good, I'd say Mixolydian is neutrally good. Then melodic minor is lawfully neutral and double harmonic is chaotic neutral 🙃

I had goosebumps all the way up to the end of the first dungeon (which is the second dungeon sequentially). But when he exited the dungeon and they switched versions of the overworld theme, they lost me. Then it went to music from zelda 2. I guess it makes sense to weave the other stuff in but ngl, i was expecting ONLY zelda 1 music to accompany the playing of zelda 1. Don't get me wrong, they're talented musicians and they nail everything they do here, i was just expecting a different format. Kinda glad i checked them out before buying tickets so i wouldn't be disappointed in person lol.

There are some nuances to the popular narratives this talk references that I want to pedantically clarify. - Using assembly code wasn't unheard-of wizardry in the '90's - it was basically required for all performant games made on SNES or earlier, so loads of programmers were used to x86 ASM at the time. C and other high level languages wouldn't become popular in video game development until the mid '90's when compilers started matching the performance of handwritten ASM and the complexities of 3D game development made human-readable code a priority. But RCT didn't need that at the time (and in fact received immediate criticism for not being 3D, just like SimCity 3000). According to the OpenRCT2 devs I've talked to, had Chris been comfortable with C in 1999 (and not reused a lot of his isometric engine code from TTD), compilers of the era would have been capable of producing equally performant code as his handwritten ASM. He is definitely a talented programmer, but it's not *because* of ASM that Roller Coaster Tycoon is so performant - and I theorize the relative *poor* performance of contemporary 3D games (including the eventual Roller Coaster Tycoon 3) gave rise to the popular meme about Chris being an assembly savant in the late 00's. But that's an idea for further research. - The corporate hot potato publishing history is weird, but it all stems back to UK company MicroProse. Chris worked with them for TTD, but they were acquired by Hasbro Interactive in 1998 (hence why you see both names in RCT1), before Hasbro Interactive was acquired by Infogrames in 2001 (what you see in RCT2), before Infogrames rebranded itself as Atari in 2003 (what you see in RCT3 and beyond) after consolidating full rights to that corporate name following Hasbro's purchase of the "original" Atari's husk of a gaming division in 1998. It's always technically been the same publisher, and Chris seems to have stuck with them out of convenience (despite reportedly retaining full ownership of the brand and even suing Atari for unpaid royalties in 2005). Yada yada, more stuff happened after that, Atari filed for bankruptcy and even tried to auction off the rights to RCT in 2013 but found no buyers. In 2014 the company emerged from those proceedings as Atari SA, basically a holding company for the IP they couldn't sell off managed by Frédéric Chesnais and a skeleton crew of 10 employees. This company was $34 million in debt, so they started milking nostalgia for all they could. This was how we got RCT4M with microtransactions galore, and for how much we all hate this period it definitely saved the company - with (now crypto-shilling) Frédéric Chesnais directly crediting RCT as being their most profitable franchise in 2018. Thankfully Chesnais was bought out and replaced with Wade Rosen who quickly shelved the company's NFT plans and made well-received investments in Nightdive Studios and historical releases like Atari 50. We've likewise seen new official RCT merch and product collabs within the past year. - Frontier actually developed both RCT2 expansions (hence why they only contain reskins of existing rides and have a slightly different art style). After this they developed RCT3, its two expansions, then Thrillville and its sequel in back to back years. They'd produce a few small scale coaster games in the intervening years, but Planet Coaster in 2016 was a big revelation after a decade of no major theme park sims. I'm sure the author wanted to include all that minutia of history in there, but I applaud them for speeding through as much as possible to get to the community showcases. Awesome to see a greatest hits of NewElement featured - no press outlets ever cover that corner of user creations!

Noticed the mix/production is the best yet!! Drums sound very clear and properly compressed, guitars balanced and wide, bass sitting perfect yet present, the game sounds are a really nice touch, I’d like the audience louder, but that’s personal preference. Mastered loud yet dynamics are preserved well. Oh yeah, and you destroyed the tunes as usual, fantastic arrangements and performances! Great energy too! Kudos gentlemen, keep up the outstanding work!!!!!
