There has to be a larger conversation about black tax in general. I think this points to the need to reframe the mindset around parentification of children ( mostly but not exclusively happens to first borns) and the finance and retirement planning that is lacking in most families where wealth flows backwards instead of to future generations. Some siblings become complacent when their older ones are successful. I have seen cases where a first born goes abroad and all of a sudden the younger ones assume they don't need to put effort into their own purpose. A first born gets a scholarship to go abroad or a job and instead of the younger ones hustling to also look for scholarships or working towards a career, they just assign breadwinner status to the one that has travelled and stress them coz they have to juggle studies and work to cater for people who are just chilling.

@@cestmoitout What you have said is true. We need a re-education on how to handle finances especially as a family. I have placed it as my duty to educate my children on how to handle their finances and to know kila mtu atabeba mzigo wake. They can care for each other, communicate when they need help and work towards getting better even if they are supported. I am also working on my retirement, at least to ease any form of financial burden coz wueeh black tax has become some peoples side hustle. Kudos to all first borns whether biological or the first to break cycles in their families. You could have the money talk in your show and how it is a taboo to discuss money in our families (just a suggestion). How important it is to talk about it and how important it is to encourage open communication in families

Yes there's the balance issue; when kids are forced into parental roles when they are still in need of parental support themselves it's wrong. However when Parents manage the childhood phase well, kids are able to support them when they are fully upright 🤩
