The red flag of "high standard" is that we can get attached to "idealism" which is not grounded in reality -- very good reminder to stay in the middle ground and not lean towards rite and rituals for its own sake.

I am one of the fortunate few to have the opportunity to meet Rev Mahathera Dhammavuddo a.k.a (affectionately known as) Bhante Hye and sit at his feet to listen to his Dhamma talks. He gave me much motivation to study the suttas and strive to put into practice the teachings of the Buddha. Most importantly, he pointed out to us the true Dhamma (as recorded in the Nikayas), led and guided us along the Path. For these i am eternally grateful to Bhante Hye. Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu 🙏🙏🙏

I accompanied Bhante Hye for a while in his early years following Theravada. Time flies; I left Malaysia over 20 years ago and now live overseas. Hearing his demise a while ago, it was truly sad, but accepting impermanence. So many images of me following him flashed in my mind. Somehow, this video suddenly appears on my screen. I am grateful for his guidance. Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!

Thank you for posting this. Venerable Dhammavudho's sutta lectures have been the best resource I have found on the Internet for understanding the Buddha's teachings. I look forward to seeing this full movie.

🤔👍 Top 10 Most Important Points from the Dhamma Talk 1. **Gratitude During Adversity:** - The talk emphasized practicing gratitude not just during happy moments but in challenging situations, as this builds resilience and reduces suffering. 2. **The “Teh Cham” Effect:** - “Cham,” a term reflecting hardship, was used to illustrate mixed effects. It refers to being grateful for both the good and bad aspects of a situation, recognizing that adversity often comes with hidden blessings or opportunities for growth. 3. **The “Sour-Sweet” Effect:** - Reflecting on past hardships (sour) and comparing them to present improvements (sweet) enhances gratitude. This contrast makes small blessings feel more significant. 4. **Buddha’s Teachings on Gratitude:** - After Enlightenment, the Buddha spent a week gazing at the Bodhi tree out of gratitude. This highlights that gratitude can extend beyond people to objects, situations, and life itself. 5. **The Medallist Study:** - A psychological study revealed that bronze medalists are often happier than silver medalists because they focus on what they gained, while silver medalists focus on what they missed. This mindset of contentment demonstrates the power of reframing perspectives. 6. **Gratitude as an Active Process:** - Gratitude requires effort, intentionality, and consistency, similar to physical exercise. Practices like journaling, using mala beads, or mindful exercises can help cultivate it. 7. **Integration of Songs in Dhamma:** - Dr. Phang composed and shared songs like “The Magic of Life” and “What Have I Learned” to communicate gratitude concepts emotionally and memorably. Music served as a tool for learning and reflection. 8. **Kindfulness Before Gratitude in Crisis:** - In moments of distress, gratitude may not be immediately accessible. Instead, practicing “kindfulness”-self-compassion and empathy-is more effective for soothing the mind and creating the space for gratitude later. The song *"Be Grateful, Be Kindful"* encapsulates this concept, reminding listeners to balance gratitude with compassion when facing difficulties. 9. **DIY Blessings:** - Gratitude is a “do-it-yourself” (DIY) practice, empowering individuals to generate happiness independently. This Buddhist approach contrasts with relying on external blessings. 10. **Key Gratitude Reflections:** - *"It could have been worse":* Reflect on how the situation, despite being difficult, is not the worst possible outcome. - *"I'm not alone":* Recognize that others face similar challenges, fostering a sense of connection and solidarity. - *"This will also pass":* Acknowledge that all hardships are temporary, offering hope and strength to persevere. These points capture the essence of the talk, blending Buddhist wisdom, psychological insights, and creative approaches to practicing gratitude.

𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶-𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗚.𝗣.𝗧: 𝗔 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 🙏🤗💖 This morning, while driving to Serdang to deliver a talk on gratitude, I created a simple way to cultivate gratitude with the acronym 𝗚.𝗣.𝗧: 1. 𝗚 - 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲: Search your memory for things, people, or moments you’re grateful for, whether recent or from the past. 2. 𝗣 - 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Reflect on and appreciate the positive aspects of your life or experiences. 3. 𝗧 - 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: Acknowledge what you’re grateful for-silently, through journaling, or by sharing it with someone. 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗧: You can "chat" with someone to share your gratitude or "chat" with yourself to nurture the joy of thankfulness. This practice makes gratitude a regular, meaningful practice, enhancing positivity and well-being. 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆: 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶-𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗚.𝗣.𝗧. is a fun and effective way to 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵, 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲-bringing joy and mindfulness into your daily life!

How about during pandemic time, the boss purposely find the excuse in order to proceed with retrentchment of job in view that he is very rich with lots of properties collecting rentals, and whole company only got 2 staffs, still intended to retrench a staff. Is this extreme greed?
