Mount Lemon is in the Santa Catalina Mountains, Sky Islands of the desert, with an elevation of 9,000 feet. They actually have a ski area (not very dependable).

I saw a beautiful prairie rattlesnake in the road recently but did not have the knowledge or tools to help it. It was actually my first time seeing a rattlesnake. I'm happy at least some snakes can be saved by people like you

1958 went there via diversion dam and camped at base of South butte. Waded across the river, climbed a hill, walked through the tunnel, came out the other side, crossed the bridge, kept walking until we saw the coke ovens then explored them. All part of a Coolidge boy scout camping trip with scout leader Don Hunsaker.

Not sure if you know; your first stop at the river was the ghost town site of Cochran, some buildings still stood there in the 1980's, there is a small mine entrance just to the east of where you stopped that was used to keep things cool in the summer, at least one old western movie was partially filmed there. The Coke Ovens are just across the river hidden by the trees. A nice view of the trestle and train can be seen in Dwight Yoakam's music video, "A Thousand Miles From Nowhere".

How did it work out on the gas. Can you purchase any fuel at Bar 10 ranch?
@arizona30607 ай бұрын
Some may think the Bar 10 is too expensive but considering the remoteness I don't think so. They did a great job! Question about gas. Guests can purchase gas at the ranch and we found that it was essential that gas was available or we would not have been ablt to make it.
