Likely a Filbert or Hazlenut trees, they harvest the fuit (hazlenuts) in Fall and Winter and the wood is best collected between Winter and Spring for quicker seasoning especially if just died but generally anytime will do. It’s best to let the wood season though there are certainly exceptions and trial by error.
