I got a Wolverine. It works fine for most of the film except: If you have video with a bright sky and dark ground (typical outside video over a long distance) the scanner can't seem to make up its mind regarding light intensity such that about every 8 frames it goes dark for a few frames and then lightens up. So it essentially flashes. I could not find any method to stop this and my editing software doesn't have a fix for this. Old film curls from side to side and becomes stiff. The device doesn't flatten the film and it gets out of focus. Using a sprocket to advance the stiff and warped film constantly fails because of the curled up edges coming out of the sprocket. I have film going back to the mid 40's and from the early 50's to 1944, I have problems with degraded film. Oddly some of it works fine - B&W, sepia, and some color film especially if it is thin acetate. The images are there, but the acetate doesn't want to feed through the device. It would be nice if they would give a bigger take up reel than 200 ft.

I'm very interested in this movie digitizer as I have an entire box full of 8mm and Super 8 home movies from the 1950's to the 1980's. A lot of sentimental value. Just wondering if it has a USB port that I can plug into my computer, and if so does it come with editing software?

I tried building a trnsfer machine for many years, much fail. super 8 really does not need 1080HD, 720 works great. post processing thru after fx works and stablization makes difference.

Hmmmmm. A few issues with this review. You focus too much on aspects of the machine that don't matter. Who cares if the device is noisy? The issue of it being slow is kind of negligible. As long as I don't have to babysit it. Once it starts, it should do its thing. What matters is: how good is the scan quality? Is it reliable? How well can the scans be plaid back / converted for use elsewhere?
@giuliom865 жыл бұрын
You put the film in the wrong way to put it back on the yellow reel... probably the film is now damaged because of the contact with the scanning part. Great.
@giuseppestruzzo5 жыл бұрын
The speed, after scanning with some 8mm film scanners, is higher than the original speed. For some, after scanning for Mp4, it should be reduced to around -60%. Is that also the case for the Wolverine?

I think this also takes out the risk of leaving or sending off your film. Costco transfers film..but it leaves the building..home movies too valuable to let get lost by some mistake.

After finishing can you just use a 50 foot reel with the finished product and keep using the new ones as the take up reels? Assuming the reels aren’t labeled? That would save time i think 🤔

@createmydvd5 жыл бұрын
30 fps is the video frame rate not the shutter speed, 16 or 18 is the shutter speed that 8mm & Super 8 run at. From the spec, it looks like this unit will play your film at 20fps after conversion. If you have less than 30 small reels, we can convert it professionally at much higher quality for about the same price or less. createmydvd.com
@BIackMoonCGI5 жыл бұрын
I read somewhere... It encodes at 30 fps because the microprocessor that does all the number crunching is hard wired at 30 fps, and there isn't another chip in existence that will encode at a rate you specify. It's 30 or nothing.

You're wrong 1080p or 4k ie easily done from film. You're demonstrating a inferior product. The equivocation of film to video resolution is nonsense, that's why there are allot ot movies shot on film from the 1930s-70s that are BD 1080P qnd 4k Full res. FILM is light captured NOT pixels or lines. If the lenses, film, lighting were of high quality you can have any video format you like with quality equipment. Obviously not for these $300 for that you get junk like this. Point is you should have said this machine is limited because you get what you pay for, and if you want quality results find proper film lab and ask for 30 second samples before paying . Less hassle and whatever resolution you want. 8mm and 16mm can easily goto any existing video standard nativley (without phoney upscaling)
@TRICK-OR-TREAT2365 жыл бұрын
DEAD WRONG DUDE. THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN GET TRUE 1080P IS HAVING THE VIDEO SHOT WITH A 1080P CAMERA. ALL THAT UPGRADING A VIDEO SHIT IS JUST THAT.
@soccerkittens59986 жыл бұрын
I might buy this. But if you actually have a 8mm projector you can simply project it on a white surface and video it with a digital video camera or even your phone on a tripod. It will even pick up the sound if you have it. That's what I have been doing.
@Bassquake766 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately it looks terrible! Frame by frame capture is the best way.
@redsanders87545 жыл бұрын
Doing so is the least expensive way, assuming your projector bulb lasts - replacing these old bulbs is expensive! However, you'll end up with an irritating flicker in your captured video. If you have a bunch of 8mm and/or Super 8 film, using the Wolverine is an middle of the road solution. Or, as the reviewer and others here have said, you can send your film off to a lab. But, you better do your research because some labs produce videos that are no better than what you get from the Wolverine, and possibly worse! Some labs will produce as good a video as possible, depending on the quality of the images in the film you send them. If you are not ready to research the different means labs use to capture film, then buyer beware. Even if asked, hopefully prospective labs will truthfully tell you what method they use. Lots of dishonesty out there because of peoples' ignorance.

This is a just slightly above the category of a toy. Film transfer should be performed by a professional. Look for a local transfer specialist. Looking for the "cheapest" should not be the only factor when transferring what undoubtedly is precious family memories. Costco and the like just put your reels into a box and sends them away to be transferred. Of course if this is the ONLY way a family can afford to have their precious family memories transferred, then it will do an ok job.
