I just got off Allure this past Sunday, it’s last Caribbean cruise before it’s multi million $$$ makeover...
@man_on_wheelz2 күн бұрын
Ohhhh buddy... but then Covid happened and postponed the heck out of that! I just got off of Allure 3 weeks ago and NOW it'll be getting that makeover come January, expected to be completed by April 2025. I must say though, the ship still looked spectacular through and through! If it weren't for the old-school iPod dock stations in the staterooms, I'd say it didn't need a remodel at all lol. But I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done.
@matthewwindisch94492 күн бұрын
@@man_on_wheelz I thought the area on the pool deck near the hot tubs needed a little bit of love. I agree with the iPod docks hopefully they do something about that. I’d imagine they are going to. The carpet and all the State rooms probably has to be replaced as well. Not sure if that’s on the list.
@man_on_wheelz2 күн бұрын
@@matthewwindisch9449 Between what I've read online and what the waiter at Johnny Rockets told me lol they'll be modernizing all the staterooms, doing some general refreshing, adding water slides, and adding panoramic staterooms where the sundeck is now. Gonna be a pretty hefty overhaul! When I was on it, besides some minor rust spots and no working light on my balcony (and the iPod stations) I really didn't have much to complain about. Perhaps they'd already touched some stuff up since that time you were on it.

I was on the sister ship, Freedom of the Seas at that exact time. I loved my time on ships (almost 10 years) but i'm also happy I never have to boat drill again. Now, I prefer being a guest.

Thanks for noticing Alexander. Yes, in this case a good portion of the moving shots were done with the DJI OSMO which I absolutely love. I know use the OSMO Pocket.

Unfortunatelly the bearing broke again after the repair. I sailed on Allure in December 2014 and one of the azipods was broken resulting in some itinerary delays.
@jbw99997 жыл бұрын
Supposedly it's having problems again now (8/17/2017) and is changing itinerary on future cruises because it can't sail fast enough to make it to the planned further ports.
@ulricgile-creque47396 жыл бұрын
Jack White, you are correct. We were on the ship when it sailed out of Fort Lauderdale on August 6th, 2017. Our itinerary was changed slightly as a result of the azipod issue.

4000m may not seem like much but if you are coming from sea level you better acclimatize for at least 2, 3 days otherwise you WILL suffer. It's simple physics and chemistry. If you think you can hike problem free at 4000m and above without acclimatisation you are kidding yourself. I've seen people end up in a hospital so this is not something to be taken lightly. Salkantay trek is great but Ausangate is even better. More remote, absolutely incredible scenery, people, nature and solitude. The Andes are truly spectacular.

I did this trek solo, carrying my own gear. All the facilities these guys used can be used yourself for a couple of dollars a day. These guys paid thousands. Just get a map and do it. The Inca Trail is overbooked and overpriced.
@timmyexner9 жыл бұрын
Carpe Diem I appreciate the info of you going it solo. must have been fun. We enjoyed the guide for the information she provided along the way, remarkable historical facts and information about the trail and environment around us every step of the way. She also knew locals along the way that talked to us, and made us some interesting meals. As well, don't jump to the assumption that "thousands" were spent. We paid just $600 each, which amazingly included, The Guide, the cook, the horsemen, the horses and donkeys, ALL meals, one night stay in the Hotel at the base of Machu, the entrance fee to the park, a personal guided tour, and the train ticket back to Cusco. It was great having all that taken care of by the tour operator.
@carpediemus9 жыл бұрын
Tim Exner Thanks for the response.I never realised that it was that cheap. While in Cusco, trying to get hooked up with a tour guide company, I was quoted $1250 as the cheapest price - Cusco to Cusco, and didn't include the optional bus ride from AC to MP at the end I wanted to tell people that it doesn't need to be very expensive, booked in advance and forced to spend time with fellow hikers, who you would be stuck with for 5 days. The Macchu Picchu trail was fully booked, unbelievably expensive and group sizes which were large. Also, it would be likely I would be sharing a tent with someone I didn't know. The tour guides I spoke with weren't keen on allowing me to bring my own tent (Limited camping spaces, insurance reasons??? etc.). There would be a lot more freedom doing it solo and there were people likely to be on the trail and locals who lived there also. Just in case I got hurt or felt like a chat. Don't underestimate the feelings of sadness that could come along with too much solitude, especially on long hikes and if altitude sickness takes hold. Coca leaves definitely helped me with altitude sickness. A great thing about the hike is the access to hot food, not having to carry water. My total pack weight was 19 pounds, including tent. It was colder than I thought it would be. The trail was better marked than I thought, due to traffic over the years. I climbed HP at the end and wish that I didn't, It took forever due to too many people being on it and people turning back, really narrow trail, very steep too. Your pictures and coverage of the trek were excellent I thought. You have a real talent for this type of thing, you should work for Lonely Planet. I look forward to watching more of your stuff. This one brought back a lot of great memories, it was about 6 years ago I did it. Thanks for a great documentary.

Bearings do not mix with sea water. When a single azipod has about 20 MW power and you get even a little bit contaminants in the main bearing, it will get damaged really fast. The interesting part is how did they get contaminants in the main bearing in the first place? I would assume that they have water sensors below the azipod main bearing and pumps that can remove any water that's leaked in.
