I’ve been using a vacuum to suck at one end and tie a lasting shopping bag to the end of a rope, inset this at the other end of the pipe and it gets sucked through very fast. Gloves are needed. Have been doing this with instances of 300m and 6mm rope without problems. The only thing to watch is to firstly blow any water out of the pipe or your vacuum cleaner fills with water.

@TheJacks7 күн бұрын
If you want to add a run then you hopefully have string already in the pipe, cuz nothing will really work for blowing or fish taping in you have to pull all the wires out if you didn't

um.. so I have a pipe that comes down my house thru a crawl & into the basement panel. Wondering if mice can get up there, thru the pipe & into my electrical box? Is that even possible? Maybe I should apply this to the top of that pipe where the outdoor service enters it. For all I know it's sealed but given this house - likely not. Wouldn't flipping off the main switch on the panel suffice for cutting the current off?
@TheJacksАй бұрын
Yes blowing or sucking the string through that should work shutting off the main breaker turns off all the power to the bus bar but where the feeders attached to the main breaker will still be electrified so definitely don't use a steel fish tape

Love this video. Just curious, I want to add power to my shed, but only plan on having outlets for a tv, speakers, install a ceiling fan and a plug in air conditioner. Would I need a subpanel for all this or could I just do an inlet to run power to the shed form my house?
@TheJacksАй бұрын
Technically you still need a disconnect and then I would run two circuits one for lights one for plugs, but you don't have to have the subpanel you just have to have a way to shut the power off outside
@seanifer06Ай бұрын
I want to run power to my shed to basically have a tv and lights out there for a hangout. Is this something that would work and would 60-70 amps be good?
@TheJacksАй бұрын
You would only need to run a 20 amp circuit for plugs The 15 amp circuit for lights however you still need them disconnected on the outside with like a heat pump disconnect or something

Thank god I have good collegues, who also know to pull wire without tape and a hammer, in half the time you did. First of all take some good rope and not this packingrope. If you're a educated electrician, you know how to tie a rope to a couple of wire, without the electrical tape, which will become loose if you're unlucky and cause more friction then you want.

I remember using a kitten to run cables under the floorboards on an old house I was working on. It was the old lathe and plastered ceiling, so it wasn’t a smooth run to push the cables through. Trouble was I had to coax him through with some cat food at the other end, The first attempt, he just sat there 😂. On top of the floorboards were the furniture and carpet. 👍👍

Do you have to hold a specialty license of any kind to bid specific jobs. I been building bathrooms and kitchens for years now, from bare studs to finish product and I do everything from floating walls, tiling, and slab countertop installs and from time to time will do some concrete work. I know masonry or tile licensing could cover all that but if I had a GC license would I need those other “specialty” licenses as well so I can have my own crew work on it? I also have experience with retaining walls and pouring concrete slabs so I wouldn’t want to limit myself by only getting a specialty license but online I get confused because apparently a GC cant bid on “single trade” projects unless they have a specialty license in that trade. Seems like at that point I would have to turn down jobs that would be for like a simple slab pour since that’s only one trade technically.
@TheJacksАй бұрын
It's all depend on your jurisdiction and where you live, in Washington state yeah if you're going to do any kind of work over $5,000 you have to have a general contractor's license, in some spots in Idaho and Oregon you don't need anything so it really depends on your local jurisdiction. Plumbing almost always requires a specialty license though so if you're putting in bathtubs and sinks and stuff I would look at your local regulations
@spooky3669Ай бұрын

I am not a big fan of using vacuums I have never seen an underground pipe that doesn't have water in it and most of the time there's multiple spots with dirt and debris choking the pipe. This technique is great if it's a new install if its existing I run my duck auger and I taper Loop of string on the end because the duck auger won't go up the last 90. So I just pushed my metal fish down the couple feet and hook the loop and pull it up . I've been running underground fiber for 10 years and this works the best at least in New York
@TheJacks29 күн бұрын
That actually makes really good sense usually blowing does blow a lot of that debris out if you have a strong enough vacuum though
@jamesharrison7261Ай бұрын
Use a pulling sock with a journeyman twist, tape with a tab. Mule tape and some foam lube spray is best in order to not cut the sweeps.
@TheJacks28 күн бұрын
That's what I do for heavy gauge wires but for little stuff like that it's no big deal to pull it with string

Cut your wires at an angle I had a great tip from my partner while trying to fir a 3mm Shrint Tube all the in my cellphone charger while repairing it. He said,have you used a silicon notice how it smooth out your finger when working with it?,use some of that when pulling wire. It will smooth out the pulling. Now try that! :)
@TheJacksАй бұрын
Actually that's a technique I use all the time but I forgot to mention it in this especially with larger wires anything that keeps it pulling the right way, the other thing I didn't mention is that you should always pull with the bells so you don't have anything to catch on
@ArthurDentZaphodBeebАй бұрын
3x faster? You spent 20 minutes just cutting the silly bottle snd trying to feed it.
@TheJacksАй бұрын
Fair enough, when I made this video, The intention was just to teach people there's another way to get string through the pipe but I can't help myself but explaining how I do every step it's just the teacher in me. And I did not prep that pipe properly to make it go fast enough
@bobprivate8575Ай бұрын
The only recommendation I have, is when you pulled the wires you should have also pulled a new pull string with them. That way, if you need to do something in that conduit in the future, you have it ready to go.
@TheJacksАй бұрын
That is the number one thing people notice besides the horrible music, and I would agree but in this case it's just a tiny little shed and I'm only needing two circuits, This is great advice for anybody else watching this video that may need future proofing
@kellkelley5743Ай бұрын
Ok, by the time you're setting up all this, I've already pulled the wire through. Great video.
@TheJacksАй бұрын
Sometimes that's true, but every once in awhile you get that one where something's in the way and you can't pull and this will be the time when you need this video. Thanks for the compliment though
@skipmars79792 ай бұрын
I literally did this more than 35 years ago. I didn't use a water bottle. I just took a paper towel and wadded it up and tied the string around the wad. Poked it into the hole and used out FilterQueen vacuum on the positive side and blew it through 50 feet of pipe and 2 elbows. No water bottle needed.
@TheJacks2 ай бұрын
Totally agree The only reason I use a water bottle is to get a better seal sometimes but I have used wet rag in the end of the vacuum to get what I needed
