Ja Rule the first to rap and sing? I'm guessing you're all too young to remember Domino? I personally hate most country music, my parents played that s**t all the time when I was a kid. When I was a teenager I got nwa's efil4zsggin album and while I was recording it to play on my Walkman, my dad said "I can't understand why you'd pay good money to get sworn at" I should have retorted with "why do you pay money to listen to people sing- I'm a raging alcoholic who beats his wife, now she's left me and I don't know why" . I like a wide variety of music but alcoholic rednecks just don't work for me.

Great interview. I stumbled on Shaboozey a few months ago. I had the DJ at my son’s wedding last weekend play “A Bar song”. DJ had never heard of him, but loved it and said he was adding it to future playlists.

I've seen a lot of black reactors on KZbin enjoying country music for years now. They've been introduced to the remarkably diverse genre, and more, by their subscribers. More often than not country music is about home, heart and soul which anyone can relate to in their own way. In my experience most of the people who claim to hate country music have never actually listened to any of the great many artists with country in their soul.

Country has roots in black music. Oddly if you know history (Thomas Sowell) black American music is actually rural back woods English music. The rural English who came to America were poor and they mixed with blacks in culture. They created American black culture together. Blacks and whites crested country music
