Where do the following composers stand then, John Berry, Ennio Morricone, Georges Delerue, Alex North, Rozsa, Max Steiner, Alfred Newman, Maurice Jarre,

Good list, can't argue with some of your choices. I think Rodriguez is an ok director at best, for me his films seem to be all style and little substance. My favourite of his are From Dusk Till Dawn, Sin city, Planet Terror and The Faculty. Desperado not as good as those. The rest of his features are alright.

How can anyone forget John Barry, the man behind the sound of James Bond!? Not to mention Dances With Wolves. He also did a sweet score for Somewhere in Time and a bittersweet one for Chaplin.

Well, maybe Somewhere in Time's score is bittersweet as well, fitting the story.

Yep, I'm not surprised the 3 top tier lists are Pyscho, Vertigo and Rear Window, and I guess you didn't put North By Northwest in the S tier, but I feel that one is one that usually makes it to the top. My #1 is Rear Window, my 2nd is Vertigo and my 3rd is Psycho. Yea, right now I have seen all the ones that are available to watch except 5, so pretty soon I'll have watched all of them.

I love Alien 3 as well. I enjoyed the look of the first act of the assembly cut. But once the story gets going i prefer the theatrical cut. I hate that they capture the alien. Just didnt seem right.

Good list but a clear snub to the Film Composers of Hollywood's golden age who invented the medium for everyone on this list: Steiner, Korngold, Waxman, Rozsa, Herrmann to name a few and Elmer Bernstein.

A balsy move putting Halloween and EFNY in C tier, but like you said, this is your thoughts and opinions. Personally, I would also put EFNY in C tier, and regard the sequel far more highly like yourself. It moved at a better pace, had a better sense kf humor, and was just more fun. Halloween, i would put in the B tier, more so because of its technical merits and sense of atmosphere. To be a bit different i actually love Village of the Dammed and would put it in B tier, but I know many would disagree. It is a highly flawed movie, and some of the acting is plain bad, such as Kirstie Alley, but Christopher Reeve elevates it. Plus i adore the use of wide angle lenses, shooting long shots and the overall creepy atmostphere. Top JC for me is The Thing, ITMOM, Prince of Darkness, They Live. But the one I rewatch the most, is Body Bags! Such a fun anthology!

A really thoughtful and interesting ranking. Love the channel, thanks. You're right, Escape from NY is just ok - incredible set up, but ends with Kurt Russell wrestling a chubby guy in a ring. For me though, Big Trouble, Thing, Halloween, Fog and Mouth are all S tier!

@patrickehresmann24045 ай бұрын
This list was obviously put together by an anglo-saxon, most likely by an American with a very limited culture in music, cinema and history. An interesting fact : during the golden age of Hollywood, most of the major film composers who had won an Oscar had a European origin : Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Max Steiner, Ernest Gold, Franz Waxman, Dimitri Tiomkin, Miklos Rozsa, to name a few. This is not to ignore the contribution of some significant American composers from this era, such as Bernard Herrmann for instance, but this shows that the American cinema was, back then, very open to collaborating with foreign composers. Now, when we consider how surprisingly Nino Rota did not receive the oscar for the Godfather, or Ennio Morricone for the Mission, I suspect that the jury was made of people with the same biased opinion as the one who has put together such a list.
