Is it just me, or does anyone else recognize and SEE how precise and as near to Perfect this man’s every move motion execution is?? As a Kenpo practitioner of decades and teacher, I assert that No One Including Grandmaster Parker executes pure Kenpo technique then or now like Tatum. This cat is precision in motion at the arts highest form. And I’m a Tracy Kenpo dude, btw. Tatum is beauty in motion because he inputs emotion. If that makes sense. Talk about technically sound.

He's not doing the form at full speed. He's just walking through it. Kenpo isn't my martial art, but I have several DVDs of Huk Planas, and I can say that his knowledge of striking is deep. His movements are incredibly economical. His timing is perfect. And all fighters...all instructors...get old.

Jaguar Strikes Again As little as you think of critics, you give them too much credit. Mr. Parker said something to the effect of, when pure knuckles meets pure flesh, that's pure karate. I took that to mean, beat the crap out of your opponent then back-fill the principles and concepts used after. Either way you get to go home and say good night to your family again. Let them critique that.

Interestingly enough he did Shotokan but then a number of styles have Shotokan roots as Shotokan has other roots which in turn can be traced back to Okinawa and China and Kenpo has a lot of Chinese influence

I wrestled in high school on a mat and I hear people say Kempo's weakness is on the ground. How many people want to learn how to fight if they had to do it on 130 degree asphalt with rocks. I will take my stand up any day. The ground cuts off a large plain of motion and mobility is a factor. A true Kempo artist would destroy a jujitsu guy if he could use all his weapons.

Wow I have to agree the lack of repect here is aweful. This man is one on Parkers original students and I guarentee he can beat the snot out of all of you. This is an instructional video on a form, and for those actuall kenpoist out there you know there is alot of hidden information here and in all the forms for that matter and are not neccisarily the way that would be performed in a real fight. I don't think that Mr. Planas would want this on youtube being that he has no tapes posted himself.
@gotmama2
@gotmama2 7 жыл бұрын
Amen. This is a very small portion of an instructional video that Master Planas put out with Master Rick Fowler many years ago (part of a series). The entire tape (I think it was only ever put out on VHS) goes on to explain the why's of every single move in this form ad nauseum. If you can find a full copy of this tape, and study it, you'll truly understand the form. I've attended a couple of seminars with Master Planas, and not only is he an awe-inspiring Kenpo practitioner, he is the best teacher if you really want to understand what the techniques and forms are meant to teach. That's probably why Ed Parker chose Planas to manage the Pasadena school.

Why do you have the need to say that?Come on man why should you see this in a competitive way between arts or masters? You cannot compare a Kenpo 7th Degree (Now 10th)Master with a Japanese Master because there's one big difference between them They are different persons in different arts with different graduation criteria. Why would we judge people by a 2.09 long video onyoutube? Trust me I've been in Seminars with Master Tatum more than once and in person you can see how powerfull this man is.

@@jenna24689 Sorry to contradict you but yes, paul brennan needs to argue. You see, he has an inferiority complex that compels him to try to make up for it by being a tough guy from the keyboard. He's not even a martial artist. No student, not even a poor one, would be so disrespectful to himself, his teachers and his art to behave in that way.

Anyone that thinks this is how he would fight does not understand what the purpose of this is. Forms or kata in this or other martial iare meant to teach principles. Real fights, spencially, life or death situations are chaotic so it is really stupid to think an experienced martial artists would use a predefined sequence of movements. However, if trained properly, memory muscle will take over when needed depending on the situation.

Anyone who has "Super" in his name is too arrogant to know that 90% of what he is doing is "illegal" in your world. Most likely a statement from a MMA fighter. Suppose you feel that there is no good stuff that comes from "traditional" arts, MMA=Mixed "Martial Arts" All the arts in MMA are watered down for the rules. You "train" to feel some one "tapping out", not how to AVOID THE PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE.

This "old fart" has influenced the way tens of thousands of martial artists move, through his years managing Grand Master Parker's school in Pasadena, through the thousands of students in his lineage, through his decades of seminars world-wide, and through his videos. I've attended Grandmaster Planas' seminars, and trust me, you did not want to be his uke. He would not need to have much endurance in a real fight, because he would probably kill or maim you in the first 15 seconds, especially if you make the mistake of dismissing him as "this old fart". In American Kenpo, btw, the forms are a sort of encyclopedia for study of motion and power principles, not a simulation of combat. The form is not designed to be pretty for tournaments, nor for your entertainment.

Karate guys learn how to strike with timing, power and speed that is still useful; and Huk is teaching these principles via a form, again useful if you get it.But you are correct kenpo’s weakness is on the ground, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still useful. And it is a self defense art not a sport art. If you were fighting two dudes in a bar would you like to be on the ground with one of the two? Not everyone is going to be in the cage.

ok these bangers got the resistance to fight ill give u that, because all they do is fight. but a kenpo master or any martialartes is also trained to fight, we sparr almsot every day at least at my gym we do spar every day at the end of each class or sometimes at the begining. but we also do forms becasue its the artistic side of the martial arts. kenpo is divided in 3 secrtions if u will: 1) basics- we see them in forms. 2) self defense techniques - we also see them in forms . 3) sparring.
@Deilgyre
@Deilgyre 14 жыл бұрын
@talon115 Because it's repetition of your basics. You can't workout 8 hours a day banging on your partnters and not get injured in the longrun. Forms also force you to pay attention to precision moves. Most of your 'bangers' can't do forms, because they don't have the mental organization or memory faculties to do so. When a Martial Artist can both fight and do forms incredibly well, you know you're looking at the real deal.

you should first be able to do it slow. do everything in the form, dont shortcut anything. then work your way up to doing it fast. testing situation or tournament setting you should do it fast. and because you have done everything slow and perfect if will look good. there is no best way. just depends on situation.
