I've just come across this video and the magic twig is a steaming turd of an "invention". The twig is marketed towards the nods of carp fishing. Unfortunately, there's lot of nods out there. The Nash Triggalink does actually recoil and is so much safer. It's excellent when used as soft boomed hinge rig. What's his face calls his version the herr flick rig? Something like that

@@SamsungCarper yeah, that's fair enough. I've done similar by having nothing to do with OMC at all. Just prior to the twig's release, I sent an email to Mike Hutchison, product development manager at OMC, and asked him what on earth was he and Ali thinking, by releasing such a potentially hazardous item of tackle to the market. I stated the obvious, about the potential of it catching in snags, weed etc. But I also went on to say, that the product is aimed at the gullible and the angler that just doesn't care - which, unfortunately, there are lot of carp anglers like that these days. I received a reply and because he deemed that I unfairly criticised carp anglers as well as the product, he refused to engage in a conversation with me about the twig. I replied to call his reaction a cop out, but he blocked my email address. I would never wish ill will on anyone. But I'll be glad to see the back of Ali Hamidi and anyone who is associated with OMC.

This just seems like a modern take on a boa/bungee rig that's been over complicated to confuse people. It looks like it does more, but doesn't. I'll stick with the boa rig. The stretch is there as soon as the fish picks up the bait, cant use the weight of the lead as, as soon as it moves toward the lead, the bungee part keeps tension on the hook. Maybe im just old though🤷‍♂️

All your video clips show a slack line from the lead to the reel, don't most carpers have that section of line tight, if so the lead can't move forward, only the hook link will move, and that will be backwards as intended.
@SamsungCarper
@SamsungCarper 9 ай бұрын
No, no one has that part of the line tight, onky the inexperienced. You slacken off your line so arounf 6ft from your lead backwards is on the deck, or more, this allows fish to feed on, around and over your leads without liners and spooking the fish. However, let's say you do use a tight line with the twig you'd just hold the twig open on the take, you're suggesting the twig would be able to close by either pulling the fish towards the rod ornthe rod towards the fish, which is impossible. the only way it would close up is if you rod went towards the fish or the fish swims towards you. This device is nowhere near powerful enough to hook fish. If it was the size of lead needed, it would be house bricj size and the spring so strong the twig would be made from metal. I appreciate you taking the time to think k of an explanation as to why its not working. I wanted it to work just as much as the next person. It just doesn't.
@bernardcribbins7083
@bernardcribbins7083 8 ай бұрын
Even if you fish 'tight' the line is never in a straight line to the reel. The weight of the line creates a bow. All mono has a degree of stretch. So there is still a lot of potential for the line to move, even when seemingly tight.

If you bought a car, it was advertised as a ferrari when you get it, it's actually a ford, would you be happy? Same with this, its advertised as a self-triggering device. It doesn't. It's not about destroying new things it's about exposing new things that are fake, useless, and a waste of your money.

@SamsungCarper
@SamsungCarper 10 ай бұрын
If your hook is laying flat on the bottom to me, it would suggest you're using a wafter, which is a semi bouyant bait, it's half pop up half bottom bait. This rig will work with that type of bait also, but if you want it to pop up, you need a more bouyant bait. There are two ways to do this. 1st buy some fresh pop ups they'll cost around £5-£8 for a tub. 2nd you can add a foam/cork topper, drill out the bait u have and put a cork dowel into it. Add putty will only make it heavyier you need to go lighter.

I think it works , is it unfair ? Maybe yes as it is a self hooking device , and yes the bungie effect after will help You land more fish , BUT them wings ruin all the good work for me , if you have a crack off then in a pond with weed or any snags this then becomes a fish killer or serious harmful device couple this with a barbed hook and what chance does the fish have ? Carrying around a grapple hook which will be worse than a fixed lead in my eyes !!!! Get rid of the wings and it’s not as bad
@SamsungCarper
@SamsungCarper 10 ай бұрын
I understand what you think it works, you see the arms flip out and it looks impressive. I believe the arms were designed like that for the visual effect. The twig has an inner braid that runs between the sping stopping it over stretching. Watch it again on each clip you'll see the twig hits the braid, spring stops opening, lead starts to move, no recoil. The onky time you see the twig close is when the hook end stops moving and the lead is still in motion from the take. Giving the illusion of a recoil. Don't fall for the marketing stunts of we'll trained salesmen like Ali.
@user-tf2gg3td6w
@user-tf2gg3td6w 10 ай бұрын
You're 100% right if you could measure the force on the hooklink you would see 4. 5 oz the arms would open then the 4.5 oz of the spring would come into play and the two forces would cancel eachother out the only way the spring could recoil is if you reduced the tension at the rig end or if the lead slipped either way no trigger
@benbirch2393
@benbirch2393 10 ай бұрын
I've got no dog in this fight, but the arms ARE opening before you hit the lead.
@SamsungCarper
@SamsungCarper 10 ай бұрын
They do open before the lead is lifted off the ground. The weight of the lead is what acts as the resistance. For the arms the open, the arms onky have one use and that yo hold the spring open, when the twig is stretched the arms will always pop open. What's meant to happen is the twig snaps shut on the take (arms keep it open). This does not happen. The braid that runs down the centre of the spring is hit, this then starts the movement in the lead the lead lifts or moves hooking the fish, its only when the hook end stops moving or moves towards the twig it closes up, and that shows the twig doesn't hook the fish the lead does.

@OneDayInMyGarden
@OneDayInMyGarden 10 ай бұрын
Well, this is basic physics: every action has an opposite and equal reaction. So it does work as advertised. It's just that you're holding the rig tightly, so instead of pulling the hook into the lip, the lead comes flying back. Maybe in the next video hold the hookpoint on your finger and trigger the system to see if you need to go to the ER after. The only problem I have with this system is the lack of carp safety after you've snapped off on a carp. Plus I think a rig like the bungee rig is way less cumbersome and basically has the same effect.
@SamsungCarper
@SamsungCarper 10 ай бұрын
You couldn't be more wrong. I've tried it. You can lift the whole thing off the deck with out triggering it or hooking yourself. Its when you shake it, it triggers and at that point there no recoil.
@OneDayInMyGarden
@OneDayInMyGarden 10 ай бұрын
In your first try (1:40) the lead hasn't moved before the twig triggers and the prongs come out, right? At that point the springs are pulling the hook to the lead and vice versa, correct? Plus the light one already needs 4.5 oz of force to trigger it, so you'd have to use a lead of like 4 oz minimum to trigger it, otherwise the lead would do all the pricking. What weight lead is it in the video?
@SamsungCarper
@SamsungCarper 10 ай бұрын
Tried with a 4.5oz distance lead and a 2.5. At 1.40 into the video you need to watch the hook end, I pull the rig with a short sharp tug and stop still this crates a limp rig effect whilst the lead is still moving, because the lead is moving toward the stationary rig it would appear the twig is recoiling, but infact the spring is just returning to its home position because the spring is a tension one, the lead is moving the same way as the spring is moving. The next clip shows me dragging the lead slowly, and the spring is unable to recoil and pull a 3.5oz lead with a spring rated to have a force of 4.5oz recoil force. The twig just stays extended until i slow the hook down. Watch the silicon sleeve between rig and twig and moves towards the lead, allowing it to close. If you think this is the spring pulling the hook back towards the lead, you'd also be mistaken. The lead would have to have be heavy enough to resisnt the form of my arm to stay stationary and the sring have enough tensile power to pull me towards the lead. For this the happen that lead would need to be MUCH heavier, Kgs probably, and the spring so big and thick the twig would be the size of a forearm.The lead in every case is what hooks the fish. The twig just makes your rig longer for an extra £10. I do, however, totally agree on the fish safety aspect, its shocking that someone like Ali with so much fishing and product development experience was unable to see to blatant design flaw with the arms. I as always appreciate you giving your time to watch the video and comment.

From the video the legs that stick out do nothing and are redundant you may as well get rid of the legs and re design it with a pva peg or similar, also looking at the video to me the bungie effect is what assists the hook hold, similar to boa rigs I've seen.
@SamsungCarper

It's a complete scam tbh. The thing doesn't do anything other than act like a bungee after the lead triggers the arms. There is no recoil when the arms trigger. Zero testing has been done to see if it actually works.

From the few tests I've done it would be difficult for it to just trigger, saying that there's always a chance of a false trigger by another carp and it foul hooking another fish. It would be extremely unlikely tho. This scenario is the only way when triggered the hook would shoot back using the lead as an actor. It just doesn't do what it says its meant to do.
