Someone should tell Dr. Alamanda at Ortho Virginia about partial knee replacement. I went to him in September, and he told me that between living with it and total knee replacement, there was nothing. After doing some research, I found Dr. Belay, also at Ortho Virginia, who let me know partial knee replacement is an option for me, due to I only have Osteo in the lateral compartment.

Great video, especially the Q&A. I'm 70 years old and had a severely damaged/torn rotator cuff of my right/primary side shoulder. My doctor discussed both RC repair as well as a reverse shoulder replacement. Based on an initial CT scan he said that the RC repair would have a 70% success rate. I opted for the repair and unfortunately I was part of the 30% failure rate as it re-tore during resistance training while at a normal PT session a couple of months later. My doctor said that it wasn't the therapist's fault, that the repair should have been able to handle the exercise at that point. It was pretty disappointing and very painful on a physical and mental level. About four months after my initial repair surgery I had a reverse shoulder replacement. I'm now a little more than a month out and I am very happy with the results so far. My doctor did reattach the subscapularis for added ROM and stability. He wanted to ensure that it was healed well enough before starting PT which I'll being in about two weeks. In the end I do wish I had had the reverse shoulder replacement instead of the rotator cuff repair. The pain after surgery has been a good deal less and the recovery time is faster. My total range of motion may not be as good going forward, but at my age, that isn't as important to me as being able to get back to my normal life. Thank you again for the excellent video. I've watched what must be 100 or more by now and yours was as good as and really better any currently available IMHO. Keep up the great work!

Hi Doctor.. how are you?? I already received yesterday my MRI result. And it says that I have severe,, almost complete tear of my ACL. We note a small ligamentous flap at the anterior intercondylar notch meausuring 7×11 mm with a signal similar to the ligament. With a mild complex sprain of the collateral ligament extreme and moderate of the internal collateral ligament severe patellofemoral chondropathy.. My meniscus normal no evidence of tearing. Is it possible that I will undergo an ACL surgery??

I have had this for a year and it goes off and on and sucks at baseball. It goes away for a month or 2 and then comes back. In the period when it doesn’t hurt running a lot and running hard hurts it and then begins to start the pain again. As a multi sport athlete this is tuff because baseball and football are hard to play. I also do swimming but that is a non contact sport that doesn’t hurt it. I follow a stretching routine and it still hasn’t gotten better and I’m hoping it goes away. I also find that cleats are a real trigger to it.

That is great! I was on my bike riding 2 days before my 6 week checkup! Moving your seat up is a good idea. However, I found if I began my ride with the heel of my surgical side in the middle of the pedal, I could make the 360. Then as I got used to it , I kept pulling my foot back to keep tension on the knee. Soon I will have my foot in the normal position.

Two weeks today post anatomical shoulder replacement. Let me just say I am essentially pain free since surgery. The arthritis pain is gone, pain from surgery virtually non-existent ( no pain pills needed). To anybody on the fence or skeptical I will say this. My arm hasn't felt this good in 35 years.

This video speaks to our higher intelligence, and is the most thorough and well-expressed discussion I have yet to find. Most other videos say if you have arthritis in > 1 compartment, TKR is advised. This discusses the multiple nuances that affect the optimal procedure for our particular knee. The integrity of the ligament tissue. Treatment of bow legs. Partial possibly OK if OA is evident in 2 compartments depending on the structure of the knee. Thank you!

I have a medial meniscus tear off the posterior root. I’ve been taking NSAIDS, PT sine August & got an injection today. My orthopedic surgeon discussed a partial knee replacement. I’m almost 70 , very active & want to get back to fitness walking, gardening, hiking & playing with grandchildren. I don’t have much arthritis, but the meniscus tear is painful. Your thoughts?

@TheSchleebАй бұрын
the pain in you leg is caused by issues in your back... like a nerve being pinched. Mine started with leg numbness then I got tot he point where i was dragging my leg around. My ortho said I had an issue at the L4-L-5 vertebrae. He performed a foramenotomy to relieve the narrowing of the area where the nerver passes through the spine. Took less than an hour and I had my leg back.

Pay your money and you take your chances. I had a partial replacement that was great for three to five months. Then I had two years of pain until they discovered the tibial component was loose. I’m three months post total knee revision. I’m active slightly obese and didn’t have any traumatic episodes, for exercise I rode my bike on pavement and groomed trails. There was no specific episode where I noticed it failed. My neighbor has had her partial knee for twelve years. I wish they would have diagnosed that loose component sooner. The total knee is twice the rehab and twice the pain, and it’s only half as good as your original knee. My partial replacement felt completely natural after three months. I was discharged twelve hours after my total knee revision, my pain relief at home was totally inadequate for the first five days. It’s a rough recovery and you measure progress by the month.

Is it harder to recover from reverse shoulder surgery if you have already had a plate and screws put in to fix a humerus fracture and it was not realized at the time that the rotator cuff was also torn?

I had my left medial partial replacement on 08/17/2023. I would recommend this surgery when pain is very severe. It requires more expertise for partial replacement.
