A Sheltie is as intelligent as a 2yo child. They actually are capable of problem solving. They even exhibit personality. We love ours.

Shelties are gifts from heaven. I lost my Sheltie, Cooper about 4 weeks ago. He was only 7 years old and was my best friend. I have been crying everyday. I miss him so much.

They do love the sound of their own voice, though, and need to be taught that people do not find the barking as entertaining as they do. Give them something else to do and all will be well.

I don't agree at all that Shelties are perfect for elderly or less active owners. That is SO WRONG. They need daily exercise, beyond going outside to go to the bathroom. They also need mental stimulation. They can handle quiet periods, but there has to be a mix.

I personally liked the larger sable for his or her more chill attitude, but there's the perfect one for everyone. By now, Ollie (forgive me if I misspelled her name) should be a beautiful mature dog. She is beautiful!

I adore the sheltie, and I've owned 3 over many years, but I must say that since I lost my little one just one week ago ,of only 6 years I've had my fill of dealing with grief, it's just to emotional for me😢, I shall not get another one. I'm happy to view videos, go to dog shows and petting from now on. The sheltie was the only dog of choice for companionship and devotion (excluding humans)😊

I'm so confused. I've NEVER seen or heard of a sheltie with a docked tail. Nor does it look like they have ever had them docked in history. Aussies get their tails docked. But not shelties.

Sheltie need a lot of activity

My sheltie perks up her ears whether someone is driving or walking on my property. If it is someone i know at the door she tries to get me to go toward the door,,if it is someone she doesnt know her bark changes to a warning bark. I have had shelties off and on for 54 years and they have all done something to warn me including one that was trained not to bark. As i have said in the past , they have been all great guard dogs giving me a heads up to get the shot gun.

Border collies require more activity ..both physical and mental. Border collies NEED a job. Both have herding instincts but most Shelties have less. The Sheltie tends to bark more. Both are highly trainable . Neither slobber...plan on dental bills for either but more so for sheltie. Both want to go with you even if just room to room. Shelties do better in smaller homes, neither has a tail that clears off coffee tables or whacks you. Both can be shy but shelties more so and need socialzation.

That is not true. I own a Sheltie and they are energetic bombs! And they have a tendency to bark a lot. If you don't wear them out and it takes a lot to wear them out, they will turn your hause or backyard around. They may be small, but demanding. Non active elderly people wouldn't be able to keep up with a Sheltie. And the dog would be very unhappy.

Good luck with that. Our Sheltie suffers from separation anxiety. Most of the things mentioned have been tried and continue to be tried in year 10. No luck. His herding instinct is intense. It's not just us who aren't allowed to leave. Guests are also required to stay - forever. He gets over guests leaving rather quickly, but not us. Still, not bad tips. Hopefully they work better for the next person. My first Sheltie did not suffer from separation anxiety, or, if he did, he did not outwardly show it. Just another data point to show they are all individuals. Recommendation for videos: they all seem to have the same several minutes of cut and paste boiler plate. I suggest you do not do this and get directly to the point as specified by the title. Most of us are here because we have or are interested in Shelties. We already know that they are great dogs and do not need the reminder.
