I bought this a few years ago. I suck at it. My empires fell because of the most devastating enemy in the game UNEMPLOYMENT. The game is definitely far from the Babylon 5 simulator I was hoping for. But I think I will follow your advice and go in without the DLC that came with the game. I only have the first three but with the information overload that the game hits you with at the beginning I think it could be a great idea.

ive been on the fence about this game since i played the demo. was excited for it when it was first announced cuz i loved gladius so much. but part of the charm of gladius for me was the all out war all the time aspect. So when i saw they threw in diplomacy and stuff i just was no longer interested. Also the fact theres new specific resources yuo need for various units threw me off. But after watching this perhaps im just griping about not so important things and ill give this a go. very well done review.

Your voice is very soothing. This is an amazing video. Thank you for making it. I have this game in my library and LOVE CK 3, so I think I'll give it a go. I'm just a tad intimidated by the busy UI. There's so much to look at and I have no idea what it all means. I guess there's only one way to learn.
@ginxtv18 сағат бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! The UI does have a lot going on, and the amount of different systems turning is an information overload at first, but it does settle. It's a good idea to start at lower difficulties as you can get away with ignoring some of the systems and slowly paying them more attention as you get more comfortable. If you're a CK3 player, I think the learning curve will be natural. Usually when I'm in the mood for some strategy roleplay, I'll flit between the two games. Old World doesn't go as mad with the RP as CK, though it will lead you to some great (and perculiar) situations.

Bought it yesterday. The starter edition. So may people around me are always pushing me in the direction of it and while I'm a big sci Fi fan I'm still hesitant to start my first match. The video got me chills though. It's not what I usually play but the roleplaying opportunities here are really fascinating albeit predictable for me. I will try to make the word ah excuse me the universe a better place just to be eaten by my neighbors. Thanks for this it's always nice to see the communities of games like this! Much love

I’ve got myself into a pickle in one of my games, I haven’t played in awhile and loaded back into my most recent game and found myself at war with everyone and in a massive disadvantage navy wise, I control half the map and have a very good navy but I’m alone, the other empires have conquered each other and set up and coalitions and puppets with everyone that’s left. I’ve fought multiple wars with them cracking hundreds of planets and ending the war with tiny gains and massive damage done to them but they just keep coming, honestly if I could have someone take this save from me and end it I would love to see what people would do with it. My navy is around 1.1 million strong mostly big strong heavy hitting ships and theirs consist of smaller strike craft, they also outnumber me by a solid million fleet power but I can usually some how win the war

Paradox grand strategy games are nothing more than glorified MS Paint and Excel spreadsheet simulators masquerading as deep, complex experiences. They lure players in with the promise of historical intrigue and grand decision-making, but beneath the surface, they’re little more than tedious number-crunching exercises wrapped in a clunky UI. Superficial Complexity Masquerading as Depth Paradox games give the illusion of intricate mechanics, but most of their so-called depth boils down to stacking modifiers, staring at spreadsheets, and clicking through endless menus. Whether it’s Hearts of Iron IV, Europa Universalis IV, or Crusader Kings III, the gameplay loop consists of moving sliders, waiting for arbitrary numbers to tick up, and occasionally clicking a pop-up event that barely affects the broader game state. User Interface From Hell The UI in these games looks like someone vomited Excel sheets all over the screen. The sheer amount of menus, submenus, and microscopic tooltips is overwhelming-not because they convey meaningful information, but because Paradox is too lazy to streamline anything. Instead of presenting complex mechanics in an intuitive way, they slap on walls of text and expect players to "just learn it." AI That’s Dumber Than a Rock For all the so-called "strategy" involved, the AI is borderline non-functional. Whether it’s failing to mount a competent military campaign, managing its economy into the ground, or engaging in utterly nonsensical diplomacy, the AI is nothing more than an obstacle between the player and their inevitable world conquest. It’s not "deep strategy" when you’re just exploiting a predictable, brain-dead opponent. DLC Scams and Feature Stripping Paradox is infamous for shipping half-finished games and then carving out core mechanics to sell as overpriced DLC. Every game launches as a glorified beta, and if you want basic features like a functioning economy or playable nations, you better open your wallet. A full Paradox game experience can cost upwards of $300+-a textbook example of exploitative, piecemeal game design. Conclusion: A False Sense of Accomplishment Ultimately, Paradox grand strategy games aren’t about strategy at all. They’re about mindlessly watching numbers go up while convincing yourself you’re some kind of military genius or historical mastermind. In reality, it’s nothing more than a glorified spreadsheet simulator, where all the so-called "complexity" is just convoluted UI and artificial busywork. If you enjoy micromanaging nonsense while pretending it’s deep gameplay, then Paradox has you covered.

I once played a campaign, where I'd just claimed all of the available systems I planned to, and had colonized a decent amount of worlds. Well, it turned out that on one of my earliest colonies there were already some underground aliens who were not too happy about me inhabiting their world, and soon enough they rebelled against me and forcibly took the planet while I was away on a war in the east. So after the situation calmed down a notch, I was coming to liberate my planet. But as it happens a war also broke out in the west, leading to the loss of my food basket, which I had to give up to the attacker. The situation was poor, with me warring in the east and having lost an early colony. There was no food. My people were starving, the economy was in ruins, the fight for my very existence was on the edge of a precipice. But that's when I had a thought. My species had lived as pacifists, egalitarians, as a people ready to embrace peace upon the galaxy. But the galaxy around me was not returning the peaceful embrace. So a small adjustment to our values had to be made. You see, there was a recently liberated planet, now mostly inhabited by these rebellious rock-dwellers, a nuisance that almost cost me everything. The planet barely had any farmable land... But it did have an organic, unwanted species. The people rejoiced as they gorged themselves with the rebellious underground scum. Eating the xenos was in fact more productive food-wise than my greatest former farm planet ever had been. With our bellies full and hostile neighbours galore, we turned to forge worlds and military might, ending the latter half of the campaign on a distinctly different note from the one we started with. We offered peace, only to face war on every front. So we forswore peace, and the galaxy was better off after we were done. Hopefully someone found my story mildly entertaining. It's one of many out there, written out on a random comment on some stellaris video on a whim.

I've played this game about a dozen times and I've never had the ability to build megastructures. How do I unlock them? The game always ends before I can get my tech tree to unlock them. Should I focus on one particular type of research?
@ginxtv2 күн бұрын
Do you have the Utopia expansion on? Megastructures are unlocked in the engineering branch, unlocking in the midgame. The techs required have a lower chance to show up earlier, and I believe you need Battleships & Citadels researched to be offered megastructures - so moving through the ship types and station types will lead you to megastructures.

Which is acceptance of that we cannot change by the way. Rook is MEANT to be their most romantic protagonist, romantic in the sense that Rook idealizes the world and what it can be at every turn. But yeah congrats on understanding jack shit and whiny boo hoo where's my racism and slavery?!?

I’ve played this since I was about 13/14 years old I’d imagine, and just turned 21. The best part is, I loved the game then. I love the game now. The additional content doesn’t change how good the game is, some I’d argue actually impact it negatively. But it does add to the diversity of each play through, and keeps me coming back for more.

In my last play through I was surrounded by my own custom empires, and all happened to be annihilators in one way or the other. Xenophobic purifiers, integrators, devouring swarms, planet eaters. We had our home system almost annihilated, survived, and after about 220 years of constant war for survival and beating each empire individually, we stole a Dyson sphere during the khanate from an advanced empire. Achieved utopian abundance, became custodian, skip ahead another 100 years and we’ve declared the imperium and ended all war and slavery. All on Ironman, too. Most intense game I’ve played in a long time.

FFX...good times!.... I wonder if anyone remembers the web that Squaresoft put out before releasing the game in America? You could listen to the main characters' voices and look at the renders, it was mind-blowing for a 13-year-old boy (especially with the internet being so expensive and slow). That's the first and last time I was so hyped for a game launch.
