Enjoying these! This one definitely made me rethink teaching games, in particular to folks that haven’t played many modern board games. Reminds me of how using the word ‘orthogonal’ when explaining Sagrada or Azul completely threw some friends off and made them feel the game was too hard.

I absolutely hate what Dire Wolf did with Uprising and now Bloodlines. I have DI with the first two expansions, and then once they released Uprising, saying the first two expansions could work with it, and then Bloodline and saying it can work with either, just turned me off from buying any more content. They need to get their crap together and decide what they really want their games to be, because this mix-and-match is not customer friendly, and does not make for better games. It should have been DI with two expansions, and then Uprising is a new version with it's own dedicated expansions.

I just fear it may be too tight for me. Bounced off Radlands for that reason.
@TheCardboardHerald12 күн бұрын
@@elqord.1118 that’s fair, and I think the comparison is apt. If anything that’s what I was talking about with it feeling a bit narrow, even if I find it deep. Some alternate path whether it’s declared at the beginning of the game or something you could pivot to, would address this. That said, it’s not as punishing as Radlands. Winning a fight doesn’t always mean killing your enemies and you can rarely accomplish something without staging your intent, allowing time to react.
@RayMGreenley12 күн бұрын
I'm also wary of overly-tight games and I don't feel that way about Ironwood. Maybe it gets that way at the highest level of play, but for 'regular' play I feel like there's plenty of room to adjust and react to setbacks.

I was going to go in on a preorder or kickstarter of this game but then I realized: I've already own enough multiplayer solitaire tile layers (or I could also say "private puzzle" games) Calico Cascadia Akropolis Evergreen Tiny Towns I definitely want to try Trailblazers but it will take some convincing for me to go out and buy a copy. But for anyone reading who is new to the hobby, I have no doubt that if you don't already have a bunch of "samey" games like i do, you can't go wrong with Trailblazers.
@kroomiester15 күн бұрын
@@paulhamrick3943 I will say I have not played Evergreen or Akropolis, but have played the others: trailblazers offers something more than the other “private puzzle” games, it offers a very flexible system which makes playing it feel more creative, but also a more challenging puzzle making that creativity feel necessary and rewarded. I am extremely biased, I played the game 200+ times this year and volunteered to demo it at pax, but if you’re willing to listen to my opinion, I think you’ll have a great time with this game. It’s also super cheap to get the pocket edition, you don’t really need the expansions or the animal meeples. I have since sold Calico and Cascadia (I never owned tiny towns, but played quite a few times)

Got recommended this video randomly, bought the game. If you are tired of games with long setup times, having to build maps, place the different pieces, sometimes paying very large sums of money for figures this game is for you. I think there is much more potential in having units represented by these cardboards than miniatures. It is cheaper, therefore large expansions can come out faster and be affordable. It is easier to read the board with all the information on the unit itself, the game takes so little space it's actually possible to play on regular size tables. The art style is really good and the design lends itself to some historical accuracy

I think a bunch of fans of the game will enjoy having two different iterations of the game. Why pick one over the other when you can have both. Personally for me, I'll still enjoy playing base with Ix and Immortality sometimes and I'll have fun playing Uprising with Bloodlines. It's my favorite game so I'm in the more is better camp.
@LeeKenshin723 күн бұрын
I agree that Dire Wolf got themselves in a messy situation but imagine the uproar if they didn't attempt to make Uprising and Bloodline "compatible" with Imperium. Dune Imperium with Ix and Immortality is already a complete game (and gotten bloated). Bloodline is for Uprising; that's the intent of the design. Dire Wolf is just trying to appease the Imperium owners with "Frankenstein" options. Once I get Bloodline, my copy of Ix is going to my friend who already owns my copy of Imperium. Imperium owners should just stick with what they got and IX & Immortality. Or scrap it and move onto Uprising and add Bloodline for more stuff. In my mind, Imperium and Uprising are two different games and IMO, Uprising is better and will likely be even more so with Bloodline.

There was a time when I would have snapped up Imperium and its expansions no questions asked. But, I already have too many games that I don't play as much as I like. And, I really really like the original Dune and its two expansions. And so, while it certainly may be a game I'd like a lot, I'm not marrying into the Dune Imperium cadet branch. I'm trying to add fewer games that I don't really really need in favor of devoting more time to what I have.

@TheCardboardHeraldАй бұрын
Awesome! Glad to have you. Yeah sometimes it’s hard to balance brevity and overview. Core loop is very simple though. After you set up you take a turn by commanding a type of attack with one unit to another eligible unit OR you rest to recall all of your command and somewhat heal your units. Continue exchanging turns until someone runs out of their draw deck (which you draw from whenever you lose a unit or take a rest) or you start your turn with your opponent having no units in their center lane. Beyond that there’s a bajillion tactical implications, but fundamentally it’s select a unit to attack with and you attack something else it can reach.
