That's really interesting to hear about! :) Does town still have any of its mining and iron production heritage today?

@@TeachersPetUK The iron ore mining ended long ago but there is an old iron furnace in the town of Cumberland Gap, just about a mile from Middlesborough, over the mountain through the Cumberland Gap, that was used for a while in the early days. Coal mining moved from deep mining to strip mining, there are still some scars on the mountains around the city visible from town. There's also the Coal House and Mining Museum, the house was built in the 1920's using 42 tons of coal, and the museum is outdoors next to the building, which displays mining equipment and memorabilia from the old deep mining days. My dad was a coal miner and my mom's father was, too, back in the 1930's, so they used similar equipment. There is an office of the British company that funded and built the city, the American Association, Ltd., and the owner of a lot of the land around the area. There's an iron-working company in town as well, that started when the town was built, and still today makes specialized iron pieces, like manhole covers and decorative iron. Other than that, there isn't much left from those days. The whole city is pretty small, the crater it sits in is about 3 miles in diameter, and it's only partially filled by the city. Nowhere near as large as your city!
