Been there! Have surf-fished off that beach and seen elk in the fog.

I stumbled onto that cave twice in the '70s w/o a map and before there were signs. just walking along and there it was. Nice to learn it's name. the only graffiti the first time was a list of names of a club of some sort, like boy scouts maybe(?) under a skylight written in 1914(?). The second time, the chamber at the bottom end had nearly the whole walls spray painted nearly solid. Empty cans, toilet paper and poop around. I never went back. That whole area N of Mt. Shasta is riddled w/ Lava tubes. I heard of a guy in a near by subdivision that hit a lava tube when he was drilling a well, cold air came blowing up when he pulled the drill bit so he built his house over the hole and has free air conditioning. :)

why is it called Medicine Lake ?
@dune2mountain4 ай бұрын
You know, I’m not exactly sure. I know the area is very culturally and spiritually significant to the native american groups that have lived here, so I would assume the name derives from the idea that it is a place of healing.

For those of you who know about wildfire history, you might have heard of the fatal Mann Gulch Fire in 1949. As I was reading Young Men and Fire (a book largely about the fire), I realized I might have flown over it. As I checked my photos, I found that not only did I pass over it, I actually recorded it! At 6:00, you can see Mann Gulch curving upward from the river, just below the text on screen. I can’t believe I managed to capture that one spot over all the country I flew across.

Every time I drive by there I wonder what it would take to get up on top…how long did it take to get up there?…good job!

It took me about an hour thirty minutes to reach the peak, but that was on a coffee and a granola bar, so I wouldn’t consider it my most efficient hike. The lava rocks are brutal once you get halfway and they continue all the way up.

Amazing video! In the 1960s I lived near the mouth of Walker Creek. Haven't been to Lake Mt. since the '87 fires. So much of that area has burned since then.

We have adelgids in the U.K. too, absolute nightmare to deal with since the EU banned so many pesticides. They literally sap the life out of conifers.
