This brings back memories. My dad used to take my sister and I on the train to London to see family all the time. The completely dismal experience and clapped out rolling stock of British rail in the 90s perfectly captured

seeing these old trains brings back both good memories and bad memories though the bad memories are good in a "i lived through it" way. confronting drunken hooligans who were picking on a child grabbing the leader, lazy security staff, all sorts of mixed memories.

Damn I live in ashford and its crazy how most of the station still looks the same externally even after 20 years. Obvz now we have the high speed flyover on the far side and better trains but even in 1996 i can still recognise it well. Wow thanks for this video
@frenchd0ge543 жыл бұрын
It hits different to see this on third rail with slammers and no flyover at Ashford, big contrast from the electrostars and javelins in 2021

In those days exactly where was the changeover from 3rd rail to AC carried out? Like where does OHLE start and the pans are raised?
@alanchilestone4 жыл бұрын
It was somewhere around Dollands Moor, just after leaving the Network rail lines. Wikepedia says: "A switch between third-rail and overhead collection was performed while running at speed, initially at Continental Junction near Folkestone,"
@fetchstixRHD3 жыл бұрын
If you're interested in seeing the location, there's a couple of cab rides that show the location/junction, e.g. this Hastings Diesels one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/anW2l6Nmr752eZY (should take you to the timestamp) you can see the 25kV starting just as you come out of the tunnel!

@edharris23953 жыл бұрын
meh not really...from my memories the interiors were filthy, they were often delayed and it was often a mismatch of whatever they had available. Literally everything was done on a shoestring budget.. GNER on the other hand.. that was premier
