Wow! Your channel came up on my feed since I have been interested in Catalinas. I started bouncing around your channel briefly looking at one then another video and began to see that you are one wild and crazy and very funny guy with tons of friends and great adventures. Good luck with your retirement and let’s see a new one on your new boat, after all it’s been a year already!

Please, for safety sake, never clip your harness onto the life line! It’s best to have a few eyebolts bolted into the deck with strong backing plates to hook into. Those lifelines could snap in a second!

Catalinas, whoa! Lots of them, but thar doesn’t make them desirable as a seakindly boat. Interesting video, but one word of advice. If you’ve never sailed offshore to a channel 15:16 island or any island, and the weather looks questionable, and you don’t have any experience, perhaps you and your buddy or buddies should sail the course first without women and children. That way, YOU gain the experience and can anticipate problems before they occur. And if they do occur, you can figure out how to deal with them without being distracted by worries about women and children. I’m glad things seemed to go well for you, but do not ever get complacent at sea in a boat.

First off, congratulations on what seems to be a well-earned retirement. Thank you for posting this incredibly insightful reflection on what you have found important throughout your career. As someone who works in a suburb of Seattle and is about to take the company officer exam, all of this rings true and is reinforced as important advice, much of which I've heard before but with some time grinding at a busy station needs to be reexamined. I actually found this video because I was looking at trading up from a 17 ft sailboat to a 25 ft Catalina and saw your sailboat tour video. Enjoy retirement!

As a local guy and fellow Catalina 25 sailor from Mountain Home, I've been watching your channel excitedly hoping to meet you on the water some day. It was your Flathead Lake adventure that first got me hooked on your channel. That video inspired me to make that trip myself, hopefully next season. It looks like you are "movin' on up" to a blue water boat so I guess that hope of mine has been dashed. I'm looking forward to your further adventures on the new boat. Let me know if you ever need a deck hand 😉.

You will also get some great headroom!

Thank you! I think we learned a lot through the years on our C25. I will definitely give an update video when we move on. We continue to make slow and steady progress. Jess is relly excited to stop hitting her head on the ceiling. She was kinda prone to that. I will however miss the beautiful cozy nights when 5 of us would sleeping on the Catalina 25. Looks like a great time! A few questions about long trailer-trips with your C25: Do you remove the rudder? How do you stow the mast/rigging to avoid loose lines & cables from chaffing? Do you have any tie downs on the stern? Or just the bow winch? And then last, and most importantly, how did you replace the trailer bunks with rollers? That looks awesome! I’m wondering if there are plans out there somewhere? Thanks for the great vids!
@The_Briggs
@The_Briggs Жыл бұрын
HI!, I do take the rudder off and store it in the truck. The mast rests on some custom wood blocks on the bow pulpit and one that sits on the traveler right above the cabin door. In the stern, I have a crutch that supports the mast. I use cam straps from Northwest River Supplies to tie all the lines and stays to the mast and just make sure no lines are caught between the mast and the supports. I have never had an issue with chafing when I do those things. It is not that violent on the boat. The cockpit is well out of the wind. On the stern, I have 2 ratchet straps that I attach to hold the boat on the trailer. I never trust the bow winch for more than just getting it on the trailer. The strap on the trailer is always out in the sun and not easily replaced. I back it up with a chain when it is on the trailer. My trailer came with rollers, I have moved to the yellow ones slowly as they do no create marks on the boat. They are however expensive. Maybe check with a trailer shop, the rollers are nice when you cant fully submerge the trailer. Thanks for the views!
