Im in sales and after reading, "How to Win Friends and Influence People" I have realized that kindness will take a person so much farther than skills. I have skills I rarely use because I am able to sell to people by just making friends with them.

I found this book a bit disappointing, but to be fair, I have several degrees in the relevant areas and worked in mental health for 30 years. I am impressed at how John finds answers and empathy on his show. So I had high expectations of what I would learn. It was interesting hearing John's own experiences, but I thought that most people knew the problems of modern society (eg having lots on social media friends but no-one to help change your tyre). So I felt I wasted my time reading the first 100 or so pages. Again the idea of how thoughts affect us and the benefits of changing them isn't new, and I thought it would already be familiar to those seeking self-improvement.. What did make the book worthwhile though was the idea that we have stories from the past/present that influence how we feel and behave and that these can be limiting. We find it easier to recognise our thoughts than to sit down and acknowledge these stories and how they have affected us. Working on those stories, I hope, will help me improve whatever life I have left, and I am thankful to the book for that. But I could have learnt this from a far shorter piece of work. However, I like John and what he does, and he does need to earn a living to keep going. So I am pleased I helped in that area.

Yeah you do hafta have debt to have a credit score. You need credit to get anywhere in life...to buy a car, to rent an apartment, even to buy a house. I know one elderly couple who paid 40k cash for their home 20 or 30 yesrs ago. However i dont know many other people who have that kind of money. The average joe doesnt have a crap ton of money just laying around....hence loans.

I have read Brian's book four times and have given away 14 copies so far. He is the ONLY pastor that I have identified with. I have always felt misunderstood n the church because I don't identify with the culture of keeping you safe from yourself Brian's message communicates to me that he accepts men for who I am and meets me where I am at. Thank you. Great podcast interview.
