R^2 is the proportion of variance accounted for by the regressors divided by the total variance in y. As you add regressors (MLR), the numerator increases. I hope that helps!

Hey! Great video! I know this is from a long time ago.. But I'm hoping you can help me. If I have a multiple regression table, and on their own, each independent variable is HIGHLY significant to the dependent variable according to the p-value and R2. But when I put them all in one table, the p-value of 1-2 predictors fall outside of the 0.05 limit to an extreme 0.35. However, my R2 increases to .995. Should I eliminate those variable even though on their own, they're significant? Or how should I interpret these results?

Hi Jason, first of all, thanks for the video, second I am following along with your video on my desktop using Microsoft Excel using your data but I got a different result in my output. I checked the data twice to see if I had made a transcribing error when inputting data to my spreadsheet but there were no transcribing errors. I used column B (Proposition Won) for my "Y" axis and columns "C" and "D" were my X axis. Except for the number of observations (16) the Multiple R, R Square, Adjusted R Square, and Standard Error were different. I am using version 2308 of Microsoft Excel, could there be some type of calibration error or can you see an error on my part in transcription that I missed? (I did exclude the headings). Thanks for the video! Is there an intuitive explanation why the degrees of freedom of the regression (SSR) is just one whereas the df of SSE is n-2? In the end, we use the same number of observations (16)
