Finally someone who talked about APD in adults! I feel especially invisible, in a already popularly unknown disability because I developed APD at 28 after having vitamin B12 deficiency and hearing loss. My audiometry It's not ghat bad, I wear hearing aids, but unlike other people with hearing loss like mine, it's more like if I were deaf: I need lip reading, subtitles, text transcription pretty much all the time. APD It's a serious thing and can be extremely limiting. It impacted my life so much... and to make it worse, it:s not recognized as a disability in my country.

I am so glad that APD is becoming more widely understood. Years ago I had an audiologist suggest I go see a psychiatrist because he couldn't find anything wrong after testing my hearing. He told me he had never had a patient describe similar symptoms. I found that hard to believe because in my own circle of friends, there were others who also struggled. Ironic that years later my daughter became a Doctor of Audiology. 😊

Went to ENT specialist for ear infection suction and told him about my hearing test which showed hearing loss(no surprise at my age and I have tinnitus) and his response was did they try to sell you expensive hearing aids-they sure did unsuccessfully.

My name is Maria. Do you have any recommendations on whom to see in Southern California, the San Gabriel Valley area? I'm really interested in this. I'm struggling with this issue. In my case I hear people mumbling and have to ask them multiple times to repeat themselves to understand them. Very embarrassing.

After I started taking the anti-viral Valacyclovir (1 gm tablet, 3X/day), my hearing loss went away, fullness went away, no more dizziness. I noticed improvement within a day, and complete recovery within a week. Tinnitus is also much better now. I asked my PA to prescribe this anti-viral after I ran across this paper: "On the Nature of Hearing Loss in Meniere's Disease" by Richard R. Gacek. Prompt treatment is important. I am taking 3x/day for 3 weeks, then 2x/day for 3 weeks, then 1X/day for 6-12 months. Of course, not all cases may be viral related.

Apart from the sound (mechanical waves) the other critical factor is the microwave radiation (electromagnetic waves) emitted by wireless headphones very close to the brain. The guidelines used by the industry (ICNIRP/IEEE) are only based on heating effects but nerve damage and other forms of tissue damage (including DNA damage!) occurs without any heating effect. See the International EMF Scientist Appeal. Protect yourself because there is regulatory failure in this area.

Everyday I have itchy ears 👂 👂 and I scratch them with my fingers because I try to get rid of my itchy ears 👂 👂 quickly. I don’t have any wax in my ears 👂 👂 because the staff audiologist have previously looked in my ears 👂 👂 and there is no evidence that there is wax in my ears 👂👂. Never 👎 place cotton wool buds in my ears 👂 👂 because it can seriously 😦 damage the ears 👂 👂 and and I’m not joking 🙃. I wash 🧼 🧽 my ears 👂 👂 with warm water 🚿 💧 💦 and use the soap 🧼 to clean 🧼 🧽 my ears 👂 👂 to make them feel comfortable previously before it’s too late ⏰. Treat my ears 👂 👂 with good 👍 care and leave the ears 👂 👂 alone. I think 🤔 my ears 👂👂 become itchy because I’m wearing hearing aids 🦻🦻 in both ears 👂 👂 everyday. When I touch my ears 👂 👂 to try and get rid of the wax, I use the pen 🖊️ top 🔝 to find if there’s any wax. My hearing loss is 60% happens to be moderate hearing loss since birth. The only time 🕰️ I don’t wear hearing aids 🦻🦻 is when I’m asleep 😴 💤 in bed 🛌 , having a wash 🧼 🧽 in the bathroom 🚽 and finally when I’m swimming 🏊‍♂️ in the swimming 🏊‍♀️ pool 🏊. The tubes on my hearing aids 🦻🦻 lasts for around perhaps 🤔 4 months depending how much strong 💪 wind 💨 🌬️ touches the tubes. When I want to face the audiology at the hospital 🏥 in Barnstaple, north Devon, I ring up 🆙 on my telephone ☎️ 📞 to say who I am, my address and perhaps 🤔 my telephone ☎️ 📞 number to have tubes replaced at the hospital 🏥 on a date 📆 📅 is one 1️⃣ ☝️ of these weekdays except public holidays. 👍

I have had tinnitus for 35 years after a case of encephalitis. I managed to deal with it pretty well up until two years ago, it got so much worse after I got covid. It is so much louder now and it is basically torture. I've been contemplating suicide because I cant see living the rest of my life like this. I would easily give an arm or a leg to be able to experience silence. I'm not the same person I was two years ago. It has ruined my life.

I'm 46 and at the suggestion of my therapist I got an appointment with audiology. They started with a screening which indicated hearing loss so then they did a full test. Based on the results and history they found I've probably been dealing with mild hearing loss and tinnitus for most of my life. I didn't know any different. My therapist made the suggestion after I was telling her about the difficulty I had with group conversations and the resulting frustration and anxiety. Like you said in the video, I've had trouble with relationships as a result of hearing loss. Now I'm in the process of getting hearing aids!!! I can hardly wait to find out what I've been missing.

Could you comment on the topic of ANC technology? Is this technology damaging to the TM if used to reduce the perceived noise of machine noises/airplane noise? ANC works by producing an inverse soundwave to block out constant ambient sounds, and can produce a constant pressure on the TM. Will this damage your hearing in the long run?

Can cholesterol lowering drugs cause it or exacerbate it?
@AscentAudMcLean
@AscentAudMcLean 5 ай бұрын
There is no conclusive evidence that cholesterol medicine causes memory loss. However, some studies have suggested that statins and other cholesterol drugs may impair memory and other mental processes by lowering brain levels of cholesterol. More research is needed to determine the exact relationship between cholesterol medicine and memory loss. Memory is important when evaluating Auditory Processing Disorders.

Can the cranial nerves be the problem? Why does my neurologist ignore this issue? Before my sudden hearing loss I was having pulsatile tinnitus. Can the cranial nerves be the cause?

The VIII Cranial nerve is the Vestibulocochlear nerve and is responsible for balance and hearing. Often a benign tumor is found on that nerve, and it's called an acoustic neuroma. By completing an MRI, your physicians are evaluating this cranial nerve.

When I burst into tears in the Neurotologist office, he was whoa whoa whoa. All the tests came back normal ( didn’t know that Menieres doesn’t show up on tests) VNG will show an abnormal balance response. I think the part where I sobbed “how am I supposed to live like this” alerted him to the severity. We now have a great patient doctor rapport! It was laughable when all was said and done. At the time though, when he said all tests are in the normal range, I lost my mind.

I cannot believe I've got a balanced problem. because blood pressure is perfect My diet is a vegan diet. I look after myself when I'm walking. I have no problems whatsoever. It's when I suddenly change direction. like you got low blood pressure, but it isn't that I am. got no problems at all except balance And I don't know what to quite do about it. I am 70 years of age so I know I'm getting old and perhaps there's nothing I can do about it.
@AscentAudMcLean
@AscentAudMcLean 7 ай бұрын
You can have postural hypotension even if your blood pressure is perfect, as you stated. Standing or sitting up too quickly can cause some people to experience a significant drop in their blood pressure, resulting in feeling lightheaded or faint. I would recommend a vestibular evaluation to be on the safe side.

I think the thought of menieres causing tinnitus is not always true! Ive had tinnitus since 1997 and didnt develop menieres till around 2011. My thought is tinnitus over time damaged my ear to point of vertigo
@AscentAudMcLean
@AscentAudMcLean 7 ай бұрын
Meniere's doesn't in fact cause tinnitus, tinnitus is one of the few things that has to be present to be diagnosed. There is no research to show tinnitus damages the ear or hearing. Vertigo is a very different medical concern.

I'm sorry to hear you suffered from SSHL, that must have been so scary. There is no way to know when someone will experience SSHL. In order to protect the hearing in your right ear be sure to minimize exposure to loud noises, wear hearing protection if needed and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
