I can understand that some people need a focus device. As far as I am concerned I dont need it. I want to carry a minimal amount of electronic devices. Adding another tablet to just take notes is not what I am looking for. Is this a vast improvement of Gallery screens is up to your own opinion and the price for this device is not eye-catching to say the least. Thank you for your point of view.

I forgot to say that the marker plus as a marker is fantastic. The touch feeling the texture the eraser in top. As a single one stylus is the maybe the best pencil around. Just one pencil cannot do all the jobs of many others. The writing lag is non existent is a great pen. I just need to have many more other options. And finally the blue book folio is absolutely amazing. Some stuff and some packaging is better than Apple. I want to give credit to these people because they tried a lot. Is just the contrast of the screen and the inherent limitations in this screen technology that make their work much difficult.

I received mine today after work and I used only at night. The writing feeling is better than I expected given that it has a glass screen but still I prefer the plastic screen of remarkable one. Is much more better than the iPad feeling because it has some kind of amortisation on the tip. But still is a bit slippery for my taste. Not the screen but the screen tip combination since my remarkable one is kind of slippery with the original tip as well. But if I use a Wacom stadler stylus the filling is much better for me something I cannot do in this device. The front like I do not like at all as in the eink device in general. Is so unnatural to me and cannot compare with using iPad in the dark, no way. Especially the oled one. I did not use it at day yet where I expect this device to shine but I was a bit underwhelmed by the screen. This technology has severe limitations. Many of scanned pdfs are unreadable completely. There is no way this device to replace an iPad is a complimentary device at best. Nevertheless, the colour although unimpressive is absolutely necessary for academic work. I was reading my PhD that had some diagrams in colour and it is a must to have some indicative colours to understand what is really happening in these simulations. The black and white pallete is completely insufficient to portray the results of my work. Also I am bit tired after work so need to access better the situation tomorrow. But a bit disappointed at first test.

Do you have any follow-up conclusions regarding the screen vs the oled ipad? I've had a lot of boox devices, even rm2 but now that i own the ipad pro 13 m4 i'm just going back and forth on this RMPP, especially because the tandem oled is so good and i don't really imagine a scenario where i would carry both big ass tablets with me. Maybe a boox go 10.3 and the ipad.

2 minutes in this video shows exactly why remarkable pro is the best choice for academics right now in the eink space. Seeing all these textbook covers in colour is really something special. They look so dull in black and white in my remarkable one. of course look colourful in my iPad but is much pleasing to see them in colour in an eink device. I might compromise also on the glass because I start to realise that the glass is needed for the front light. But still I find not using passive Wacom stylus almost a deal breaker for me. My remarkable 1 stylus is not working any more without this being my fault but I do not care so much since I have 4 other Wacom stylus to do the job. This cannot happen with remarkable pro. If the pen is not working you need to order from them another one and until you receive it you cannot take any more notes. And it is not a pencil that is readily available like Apple Pencil for example. Nevertheless, my pro is shipped and I am receiving it this week. So excited!!

When you need to zoom in on a pdf to read particularly small print or a detail in an image, I wonder if the screen refresh is a LOT more bothersome than simply turning a page. Especially compared to the Boox which has multiple refresh speed options specifically included to mitigate such issues with moving images, for example when reading a webpage. As a visually impaired person the fluidity and ease of pinch zooming like on a normal tablet is pretty important.

@Artellico
@Artellico 3 күн бұрын

I do agree, maybe not Neoreader like the Onyx Neoreader, of course, but a decent set of features. Because of the minimalist philosophy of reMarkable, they will likely never bump up the features to the same level as Boox, but at least more granular display and refresh settings, plus more precise cropping with auto-crop mode included. Yes, but actually, this comparison was not the main focus of the video, I just spontaneously included the iPad Pro because of its size. Have tried some settings, but I do sometimes see much more significant differences that it finally appears in the video. If a comparison with the iPad is requested, I could do this as well, but I think for most potential buyers, it's more e-ink vs. e-ink ... Did you notice this point from your testing : reading or writing on the RM PP for some time, on particular page, while not disabling or keep the screen turned on - then some period of not touching the device, say 5minutes OR 10minutes, and then if pressing on the device , next page or something , the screen simply does not respond , I mean , there is some period of "freeze", after those previous period of inactivity?
@Artellico
@Artellico 3 күн бұрын
Difficult to answer, I sometimes have a "no-response swipe" in any phase of using the device. I usually try again with more pressure and it works. My finger skin is usually quite dry, so maybe not enough electrical contact to activate the touch response. But perhaps also the issue you mentioned. So far, nothing critical for me. On the other hand, I had twice a freeze overnight, when turning on in the morning. On/off button worked, but there was no way to get touch working. And then, of course, no pin could be typed in, I ended up in a forced reboot. This should not happen, I hope that this just a minor bug in the release version of the software. I guess the first updates will come out soon.

This "post-rendering" (for example, for Blue) is strange...But it is somehow reminding me the "Full Refresh" button and "automatic Full Refresh" on Boox or other devices (than RM). As you have also mentioned, when we draw in Blue or Red, during drawing until we lift the stylus, we Do see already the line in Blue or Red, and when we lift the stylus, those "post-rendering" simply flickering the same line, which is already Blue or Red, into again the same Blue or Red : ) This kinda has no sense from the aside...but maybe it has some technical sense for RM - but honestly - why would you do that (that "post-rendering" that way... ), Remarkable ??? :)

Vielen Dank!

It would be really interesting if they could improve the colour filter to a third setting: partial, so that it would be only enabled for what it detects to be text, and disabled for the pictures. Then you would have the advantages of both. you just showing the magnified static pages, which is not the critical factor of readability, e ink has been around long time and definitely alright for static page quality. The biggest readability issue is when flipping the page quickly, the flickering and refreshing shadow is terrible unfortunately you are not stressing this enough. Avoid the biggest issue, and only show the not so critical point which is the mature tech that exist long time ago, even the oldest e ink reader are good enough. In conclusion, sharpness, text quality are not main factors to even worth discussing.
@Artellico
@Artellico 4 күн бұрын
I hope I understood your comment correctly. For me, readibility is relevant only for the static display. The speed of display changes could impact usability in a negative way if it was too slow and would hinder smooth Page turns. This is not the case as far as I experienced, I am not slower than on Onyx devices when quickly turning pages. It just shows more flickers and artifacts. This may be annoying to some users, but it does not affect usability. Once the page is static, this is where readibility comes in and - as the close-ups show, for pure text, the B&W screens are winning in this area by a small margin. So for what the device is intended, it's a quite well balanced approach.

Excellent video. Agreed with your points and this is why I ordered immediately the remarkable pro from the first day. But as you said the bigger the screen the better. An A4 size device would be even better not because 11.8 is not enough for a reading a paper but a bigger screen with split screen mode can have two pages side by side. Is like having a textbook open and see two pages the same time in landscape mode. And As I said also to my previous comment I do not like the glass screen approach for various reasons that I explained before, a plastic screen like remarkable one or Fujitsu quaderno would be preferable to me. And finally if you have Wacom emr technology you can use many different stylus which is more close to reality. A paper is agnostic of the stylus. Any pen or pencil writes on the paper and there is no best solution but many different ones. I have a preference for a mechanical pencil but sometimes I enjoy a ballpoint pen or something else. Versatility in shapes and tips. To have a tablet and 20 different styluses. Finally, I find only acceptable the mechanical pencil mode in my remarkable one. All other modes seem very jittery to me and the lines are not smooth enough. The mechanical pencil mode just hides that cleverly because the line is not filled properly. There is a limitation with remarkable one with that respect and I am not sure if it is specific to the remarkable or applies to all eink devices. I think onyx boox refresh and makes the line smoother afterwards. Is this a low resolution problem or intrinsic in the technology i do not know. Let’s see.

Many thanks, and yes, the device is not perfect. But larger (A4 size, don't forget the bezels) would make this a massive heavy device (I don't want to think about the price if it comes in color). Cropping the margins of A4 sized papers is a compromise that works for me. There was one device by a Japanese manufacturer for musicians with two attached almost A4 e-ink screens where you could have two large pages side by side. As far as I know this has been discontinued (not a best seller because of the price). I find it interesting to read the comments about the pen. Some find the feeling superior to the reM2, some seem to hate it. It's more slippery, but I have tried both reM devices and actually the reM PP is close to a real ball pen. The reM2 is almost too sticky. Also the nibs may now last longer than ever before. The change of technology from Wacom ESR seems to be motivated by the screen technology and the proximity of the e-ink layer to the glass. But I have not enough technical information to comment on this. Agreed, more choices would be nice, I have a number of ESR pens which are not usable on this device ...

@@Artellico Fujitsu Quaderno A4 is 350 grams. Lighter even than remarkable 1. These remarkable pro devices are heavy because they have a glass screen and a very nice aluminium enclosure. These choices increase the cost as well. The problem is that they try to copy Apple but this is exactly what should have not try to do. You cannot compete with Apple in their own domain. You bring the game in your own field and play it by your rules. Academic work has other necessities. But agree with you right now the best device is remarkable pro because is the biggest device with colour and a new technology colour as well. Also Fujitsu Quaderno is a good concept not a good buy since it is product only for Japan without official distributor in Europe, questionable quality and poor software. Remarkable pro is the only choice at the moment. If I do not keep it is because I have the luxury of waiting as I am an ex academic and not I do not need it urgently at the moment. They can make a better device. Remarkable air if they want to copy … you know who…:)

@@stefanogalioni-kp3dg reMarkable Air is a good one 😀 Actually this may be a general trend. My old Onyx Max 2 (several years ...) had a plastic screen you could even scratch with the stylus if not being careful enough. It has pros and cons, maybe Apple is indeed in the manufacturer's minds when they redesign their products making them more and more sturdy - and as a "positive" side effect for them - also more expensive.

Conveniently proprietary marker $$$$ - we just had to do it for the technology (cough, cough lightning cable).
