Even two years later I still have not a single clue on why this is racist. Towns people vs forest dwellers = Pocahontas or Rui’s childhood of being excluded and being seen as weird. Also Emu’s climbing a tree. Why would Tsukasa not call her barbaric? In the west, I’m pretty sure no one climbed trees like that 😭

I'm a new ensekai player and was shocked to learn there was a story event removed. watching the story/play I didn't find anything wrong with it.. there are literally hundreds of stories with the theme of two opposing factors who don't understand one another and having an instigator as antagonist. racial discrimination is definitely a huge problem but the moral of those stories are always that they need to interact to get rid of those prejudices, and this stage play has that conclusion as well. the character cards tho I do have mixed feelings with it and understand why it could be taken the wrong way

This is such a beautiful story idk why it got cancelled on en because i really think that their play was just a "princess mononoke" refference (its a japanese movie from studio ghibli if you dont know )

It's so wild to me that people don't see how this could be racist. I understand being mad because it wasn't on EN, but it's so easy to see why it could be offensive. Let me break it down: 1. It places equal blame on the "forest dwellers" (native people) and the "town dwellers" (based on their dialogue, I'd say they're heavily implied to be colonizers). It doesn't even work in the story itself, because in the beginning, while the town dwellers call the forest dwellers uncivilized and imply them to be violent, the forest dwellers do nothing but call them rude for calling them stupid. That's literally not the same thing in any capacity. Then suddenly Miku brings out the "let's get rid of them!!" to put them on "equal ground" morally, but instead in the story the forest dwellers are suddenly awful people, and from a meta context it's literally just painting the forest dwellers as violent and the town dwellers as right, because the forest dwellers ARE violent (and this point is supported through their actions throughout the story). This is literally Racism in Fiction 101. They don't address either the violence of the forest dwellers nor the verbal violence of the town dwellers. The idea that the forest dwellers are "uncivilized" and "barbaric" is never challenged and even supported (see above), since anyone, even "uncivilized animals", can want peace. That doesn't make them "civilized", at least how it's normally defined in society. 2. The minister is never punished for using racism to his advantage. At least in this story, his actions are also not properly addressed. 3. This paints a very clear picture of natives of all places. People who are happy with the story think both natives and colonizers were equally to blame for their "mistreatment" of the other side. People who are unhappy with the story likely are unhappy because either the forest people are genuinely violent and they recognize that, or they're mad because the minister is never punished properly (or at all). I say this as a POC who's super miffed about Natlan right now. Genuinely don't understand people who are like "ok it's a little offensive but it's just a silly little game" ah yes, racism is ok as long as it's silly guys!!
